    To much info

Help me please. Spending to much time on boards while waiting for my 987S. Seeing way to many stories of RMS, getting very freaked.
How about a few stories of people who have not had RMS. Glorious stories of romps in the twisties and days of DE with only worn out tires and brakes as casualties.
Happy stories of the car used daily with only routine maintenance needed.
Help me Obi-Wan...oops wrong board for that.

You only ever hear about the guy who cheats on his wife. You don't hear about all the faithful commited husbands out there do you?

    Go figure

    Re: To much info

Stop stressing! I don't remember there's been any 987 RMS reports on here, certainly not resulting in catastrophic failure of the engine.

(If I'm wrong, please correct me).

But there are lots of posts and pics about people having fun with their cars, and being very happy.

I've had my car over 6 months now and done nearly 6,000 miles. Everything is perfect. Nothing rattles, squeaks, leaks, has fallen off or broken. Apart from the windscreen that got in the way of a low flying stone. The car has more performance than I will ever need, drives brilliantly and is supremely comfortable over long distances even with the 19" wheels. My only slight regret is that I didn't wait a couple of months for the body colour centre console, or maybe have been a bit more adventurous with my choice of colour scheme, but that's about it. Did 1,000 miles enjoying the twisting, challenging roads of the North York Moors and Dales. Look forward next year to 2 weeks touring France. Maybe a week in Germany to visit my step-daughter-in law and her husband if he gets posted to Monchen Gladbach. There are people around that just like to moan and complain for the sake of it, on this forum it appears to be more on the 997 board than the Boxster board. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be in a position to own such a great machine.

Here, here (or hear hear, I never know which).

I totally agree, you only hear the bad stories and nothing travels fast like bad news.

    Tuesday can't come quickly enough.

I've had the odd problem or two, nothing catastrophic though and know of many more people who've had no problems at all - still heartily recommend the car.. the dealers can be frustrating at time but that seems to be par for the course for car ownerrship nowadays, whether it's Porsche or Ford....

The expression "hear, hear" is short for "hear him" or "listen to him" and -- unless I'm mistaken -- originated in the British parliament.

The less frequent but sometimes equally important expression "here, here" is used only in response to questions like "Where should I put this extra mug of beer?"

Someone take his internet access away until the car arrives!

    Re: To much info

There is nothing like the internet to expand any car's shortcomings to huge proportions. When I bought my Subie (WRX), I started visiting various internet forums and noticed that there were all sorts of people complaining about transmission failures. I was very freaked out after a few hours of reading the horror stories. I was convinced that my tranny would need to be replaced sooner rather then later.

But then I started to slowly realize that although the WRX 5 speed was not the car's strongest point, it was an OK gearbox that was just not very abuse proof. Although many people on line complained about all sorts of issues, most actual owners I knew didn't have problems... And so the story goes. I've had the car four years now, and no problems with the tranny. Just an example of how the internet can paint a skewed picture.

RMS is a real issue, and it does obviously happen. However, keep in mind some of the following:

    1) In many cases, it is just a little oil leak.
    2) The seal can be replace, relatively easy job for a good shop.
    3) Porsche has a good history of repairing this on cars that are even out of warranty in many cases.
    4) With the exception of RMS and a number of very early block failures due to a casting process problem, the water cooled flat sixes have been very durable engines. The October issue of Excellence includes an article about a tear down of a 100K+ mile engine (from a 996) that shows the internals of the engine to be in excellent shape with very little wear.

All cars have issues, you just normally don't hear about them until you start digging around on forums etc.

The 987 Boxster is probably one of the best built, best engineered sports cars you can buy today. You have made a good choice. Rest easy, and if you do end up being one of the ones with RMS, just remember the points above, and have it taken care of.

Took delivery in June(or July? ), have now over 2300 km on the speedo, NO problems at all. NOTHING, NADA.

    Re: To much info

I think it was the first of July, RC... IIRC.

Took delivery on August 4th, have about 2700 miles on it (I've been finding good excuses to just drive with no end in sight) and no problems to speak of - I'm just pissed that I kill so many bugs everytime I take it out

Hopefully the amount I splatter will be less as it gets colder here in the Northeast
