997S with aerokit? good or bad??

    what do you guys think?????

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

So, are you getting a 997 now then?

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

like the front .. hate the rear ... wish you could just order the front without the wing . If you must order the whole package it looks much better when the car is lowered . It is like the spoiler is out of proportion with the car it is so big . Never understood why the GT has that big wing and the Turbo has the smaller better looking smaller more understated small rear spoiler . Think the 911 looks better with no rear spoiler or if you must something very small .

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I don't like any wings. Better and nice without them

Ditto. IMO, that spoiler is hideous and looks like an afterthought that some riceboy stuck on the car. I don't mind spoilers on the 911, just don't like that one.

No offense Malmsteen, but after reading about 150 questions of yours about the 987 and never pulling the trigger, I have a hard time believing you'll EVER buy a car.

Just my opinion, the 911 should maintain it's pure and simple design. Adding all that extra stuff just pollutes the exterior lines. And probably adds weight! I agree with a functional rear spoiler, but the ones Porsche offers just looks a bit overboard. Keep it simple!

I agree. The whole kit looks hideous, 997 turned into a Japanese boy racer. Go for the Rinspeed "Indy" kit instead. Costs a bit more, but looks fantastic.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

leave the kit off if you're getting a cab just wouldn't look right on a cab IMO

The GT's are supposed to be more "hardcore" or "masculine" (IMO) than the Turbo, which is more understated. The GT's are "race cars for the road", so it should look so, while the Turbo is a Extremely potent, very subtle supercar.
Another thing, buyers of GT3/GT2's will not likely use them as daily drivers, so the styling can be a little more outrageous. While some can/will use the Turbo as a D/D, so it should be cleaner, less aggresive, so it's easier to live with and look at every day.

BTW, I totally agree with you that the shape of the standard Carrera's are perfect just as is. But some WILL like the car to have a little more "bite" to it's looks.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

The real deal is the Factory Aerokit ...it works

    Aerokit Cup Aerodynamic Values:

    front end lift force 0.00
    rear end lift force -0.02
Notes:Note the real downforce on the rear axle. Former Aerokits only reduced the upforces.
    Negative values represent downforce.

    Stock Carrera Values:
    front end lift force 0.05
    rear end lift force 0.02

Funny you never hear about aerodynamic values from the aftermarket suppliers....I wonder why that is

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

aerodynamic values??? what unit are those 0.x figures measured in? how do they translate into down force?

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

Lift and downforce are also speed specific, so it's important to know what speed those #'s come from.

Those values appear to be "lift coefficients" for the front and rear of the vehicle. Lift coefficients are dimensionless, meaning that the units of the underlying components in the lift coefficient formula cancel out and one is left with a simple number that quantifies the aerodynamic performance of the object in question. I've posted the formula below. And while it may seem a little awkward, the easiest way to think of it is as follows:

1-put your car in a wind tunnel
2-you know the density of the air and the frontal area of the car
3-measure the lift at whatever speed(s) you want, usually near the car's vmax to determine its performance at the "edge."

Plug in your variables and solve the formula below for Cl:

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

That P designed kit is simply hideous. Get the TA kit for the 997, a true design beauty.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I chose the factory Aerokit for my 997S when I ordered it and absolutely love it - except for the ocassional ground clearance issues. It looks similar to the 997 GT3 and is functional with the bonus of also turning heads. Everyone has an opinion and should follow whay they like. Individualism is the issue. If you like it, get it and, if you don't, don't get it. Just make sure you make the decision based on your taste and circumstances alone. If I lived in the northern states, I may not have gotten the Aerokit because of ground clearance issues. The car has been tested to its limits without the kit and it must be fine without it. Choosing it solely on its engineering will probably not be the key, the way it looks will probably take precedence. Either way you'll have one beautiful and great performing car with a character all its own since no other car drives like a 911.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I love the look of the Aerokit also but live in the Northeast. Does anyone know how easy or difficult it would be to remove the front lower lip for winter driving? On the snow tires I doubt I would be driving over 100mph and therefore doubt the aero imbalance world be a factor.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I love the way the aero kit looks in its complete form. I would suggest getting it.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

Here are some photos of my 2006 997S with Aerokit and X51 Powerkit.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

    And the engine bay...

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

My car is Artic Silver with full black leather interior, adaptive sports seats, Sport Chrono Package Plus, CD changer, red seat belts and gauges, heated front seats, self dimming mirros, 19" Carrera Classic wheels, TPMS, 5mm spacers, Bose Surround Sound, Porsche Crests in headrests. I paid in total about $123,070 and change.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

It is very very bad in a very good way!

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I dont like the aerokit at all .... I think it kills the purity and essence of the line... Of course a GT 3 is another cup of tea

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

Why not just buy a GT3?

$7K for the kit and $3K for paint and install will add $10K to the price.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

The wing is awful but I like the rest of it

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

Here's an interesting one (posted on Rennlist)... http://picasaweb.google.com/casey.padula/CaseyS06997SAero
I'm not so hot on the Porsche-script wing but I like the side skirts & also the silver front lip, which the owner said is painted GT Silver to match Carrera Sport wheels.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I agree...love the front hate the rear wing....anyone know where in the UK we can have the front put on without the rear?......Porsche ofcourse wont do one without the other....will anybody do this but still use original parts in the UK ?

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

I am new to this forum. I just ordered my 07 C2 997. I opted for the Aero kit over the S model. I had a budget and I wanted the looks over the performance. I can see that I am in the minority, but I am the really the only only one whoose opinion counts for anyway. Me thinks that the look is really cool. I wouldn't like the PORSCHE inscribed on the rear wing like the white one, but hopefully the guy who paid for it likes it. Hey! If they only had one perfect Porsche why would all of these people be buying all of the different models or combinations of options???

I think that there is not one unique perfect machine.

Re: 997S with aerokit? good or bad??

To each his own of course..

I've made my opinion clear ad nauseum... Front looks good

    The rear wing??

When you take looks over performance, and then you multiply the effect exponentially, you wind up with a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with a screaming eagle on the hood..
