    new transmission on 997s

    i had scweeking in my clutch after 2500 miles the dealer
    coudn't find anything.now after 4000 miles i went back
    and they opened transmission and found flywheel defect.
    the dealer changed the hole transmission USD3200-.
    the mecanic coundn't find any indication that i was driving the car too fast,no overheating on flyweel no overeving on computer and porsche refused to warrenty the job.
    the head meccanic of my dealer said he is not happy with porsches decision.
    my comment a sportscar is made for sporty drving and not just to drive to starbucks and back.

    That's rediculous! It's covered by the warranty. They have to take care of it. Get a lawyer. Have the lawyer make a phone call. Then they will take care of it.

    A new transmission for 3200 bucks? I want one too.

    Seriously: I think they exchanged the flywheel and the clutch, not the transmission. Or they had you pay for the clutch/flywheel only, the tranny was a gift from Porsche. Unfortunately the flywheel and especially the clutch are "wear" parts, they're usually not covered by warranty. BUT: with 4000 miles on the speedo, Porsche could pay for it...if they want to. It always depends on how the dealer "explains" this case to Porsche. However there are sometimes 911 drivers who don't use the clutch right and it is pretty easy to "burn" it. Porsche can actually see it by the wear of the parts which the dealer returned to them. I would talk again to the dealer and maybe even Porsche customer commitment.

    Trust me: there are not many people driving their 997 as hard as I do and I already have 13000 with the second clutch, the first one has been exchanged at 3000 km together with the gearbox due to some strange squeaking noises and a pretty annoying first gear which sometimes didn't pop in. Porsche wanted to make sure they find out early about possible problems (I have one of the first cars, actually number 200 out of the first batch of built 997 CS), so they agreed to exchange everything immediately. But there wasn't anything wrong with the parts like excessive wear. So there are only two possibilites in your case: the parts were defective or you should learn how to operate the 997 clutch. If you had a 911 before and never had problems, I'd go with the defective parts and I would definetely talk to my dealer again.

    I too thought $3200 was ridiculously low but assumed it was a typo after reading the hole post.

    Not a big deal. Porsche took care of the replacement. Happened on my 02 Boxster S. It was perfect (flawless) after that. Worst things happen with Ferrari and Lambo, which are driven less than Porsche.

    what do you mean with "scweeking". is it a noise or kind of a vibration at fulldeep position of clutch at high rpm?
