By the way, Porsche isn't giving or offering extented warranty ..... BUT you actually pay for it.
When in Europe, the minimum legal warranty went from 1 to 2 years ..... ALL car makers increased selling prices to compensate for the extra cost.
There is no "free lunch" in this business.

FWIW Porsche had a 2 year warranty in the US as late as 97 or 98. I assume the local country importer determines the warranty period rather than Porsche AG. As an aside, I read some of the UK Porsche mags, and I gather that independent Porsche mechanical shops are numerous and often the first choice for Porsche owners out of warranty. Is this true? I ask because I don't think this is generally the case in the US, at least not in the areas I've lived (Boston, Metro DC, Palm Beach, FL). It is not simple to find a reputable and competent "indie", and often the dealer becomes the repair facility by default.

Independent shops will have a tougher and tougher time going forward as now required equipment to service a "modern" Porsche is outrageously expensive.
Most of these guys have a difficult time to properly service cars younger than a 993 ...
For warranty cost, it's just a statistical calculation, then the key is how to price it.
On used Porsche cars, Porsche is "offering" a warranty for cars less than 10 years old.

There are lots of great independent shops overall, but many of them focus on 993 and earlier cars because the factory test equipment is very expensive and they don't see enough cars to warrant the expense. Additionally most owners of 986/996 and later cars tend to go back to their dealers while under the 4 year warranty here in the U.S.

Yep. my contract receipt from dealer says 3 years in two seperate places though not sure if this is official OPC warranty as my car was bought from specialist dealer in Galway - their problem if something does goes wrong. Car already back to OPC under warranty to have Speedo Binacle replaced without any problems.
