997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/video_gallery/59788/porsche_997_carrera_s.html

It is really quite remarquable the way the car just corners flat flat flat!!!
    Absolutely amazing!
One can watch the sister video of the AMV8, Ron posted about it in the sports car board and immediatly, it is quite obvious that the 911 is a much more "nervous" kind of car!
    Very sporty setup!!!

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

    thanks Fanch!!

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

Fun video. The 911 definitely seems like the driver's car of the two.

You are going to love if Fanch!! If there is one thing I like most about this car, its the suspension's setup and performance.

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

Watching this great little video I was wondering if PSM was switched off?

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

That was one of the worst driving i have ever seen...

Maybe he's not Kimi, but I think he was intentionally playing with it like that. What specifically were you referring to?

The driving is irrelevant here, I personally think he seems to be a good driver, assuming he is not looking for a time but trying the show the costumer how "playful" the chassis can be and easy to recover.
Most importantly is how flat the car stays in corners!

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

I am also wondering if PSM was switched off? To me it looks like it, but could anyone with experience give his opinion....?

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

    PSM is definately OFF.
No way he could drift and slide to that degree without the PSM cutting the throttle, and engaging the ABS. The PSM would just be fighting you not allowing you to induce such oversteer, and you would see much more understeer in turn with PSM on. I have tried it on water and on ice.

I wish we could get that set up here too .

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

NO PSM but LSD (comes with the -20 mm), I suppose !!

Absolutely, that's how you get those nice slides with both rear wheels spinning under throttle

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

Fanch - undoubtedly playing for the cameras...but his turn in style was abrupt to say the least.

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

    Thanks Fanch - very enlightening!

Silly question to all those in the US: if you can't get -20mm & LSD from PCNA, why can't you just import it yourself? Is the cost too prohibitive?

I think it's very difficult to disable all of the electronics that comes with PASM and are integrated into the PSM, Sport Chrono, etc...

The driver seems to think that being able to slide and drift the car around a corner means that he was "driving at the limit". Nothing could be further from the truth based on that clip. The turn-ins were abrupt and rough, with over-correction at every turn even if his intentions were to drift through the corner. He down shifted and blipped into the rev limiter, painful even just watching it. I am no "Kimi" or Walter Rohrl, but that's no way to drive a 911. I wouldn't want to be in the same run-group with that guy on the track, that's for sure... If that's how he drives during track events, sooner or later, someone is going to either t-bone him in a turn or he is going to slide into another car or armco.
He's probably just show boating, in which case he could have done that using a 10 year old Nissan 200SX at 1/20th the price, why use a 997S with -20mm sport suspension with LSD? Completely defeats the purpose, no?

I am definitely not trying to ruffle feathers, but clips like that give a bad impression of what really goes on during track events...

Re: 997S -20mm sport susp. VIDEO from EVO

I see where you are coming from.

He's just a journalist trying to explain the dynamic differences between the 911S and AMV8. Just having fun on an empty track with a car that's not his. I see no problem with that. He turns in hard and abruptly, and may lift off mid turn to upset the car. He's messing around.

I agree that if he was driving like that at an open track day, then it would be potentially dangerous for others. A bit scary for his passenger as well, especially without safety equipment. If he wanted to drive more cleanly, he probably could have.

Anyway, I think he was just trying to make an entertaining video for the web site. So I try not to be too critical if his driving because of that. I take it as no indication of how to drive at open events, nor of his abilities as a driver.
