    Re: Nick murray

He should have picked an SC or mid-80s Carrera to really demonstrate the haphazard layout of the controls. The 993 was much improved in this respect (think heater controls, e.g.).

I miss the unmarked, sideways switch under the dash for the rear wiper and the heater levers between the seats!Smiley

And the idle throttle lever right next to the heater lever between the seats - you either rev the engine or turn on the heat depending on which you grab Smiley

    Re: Nick murray

Especially intriguing is the closed loop heater control, where a small motor moved the heater lever up and down for you, based on signals from a sensor near the rearview mirror. So quaint today...

The servo motor sits inside this black box and moves the levers up and down. The rotary knob specifies the set point. Closed loop control 101 :)

And here's a picture of the sensor, sitting between the sun visors...

I don't get these cars. They are old, slow and smelly. Yet, buyers are paying ridiculous prices for them. I saw one today and my first thought was "Can't afford a new one?". I wouldn't be caught dead in one.enlightened

The lead investor in the company I work for showed up one night to a dinner in this (not his but same colour) and you're right Nick, first thought was "Haha, can't afford a new one!"Smiley

My wife refuses to sit in my 964. She can't bear the old smell !! Smiley  and I fully agree with her. The smell is terrible in those old cars
