    Best New Car Design.

    I was just thinking about what's been going on with BMW and Chris Bangle, and it got me thinking about car design. The new 5- and 6-series are not good. What new model introduced in the past two years do you think looks the best? (minor redesigns don't count -- i'm asking about completely new cars).

    I'd say the Gallardo...then again...I couldn't think of many other possibilities...

    Well, two actually, the all-conquering SL55 and the SLR, can you tell I love Mercedes-Benz?

    While I find the SLR goofy looking with that (too) long nose (besides at 3500 lbs and with an auto tranny it's not that interesting), I think the SL is the most beautiful car out right now (with the AMG wheels though). You sure GM isn't helping Chrysler out? Sure looks Corvettie with that long nose.

    I'm pretty much with Ben on this one. I absolutely love the look of the SL55, but I feel that the SLR is kind of goofy.

    Without a doubt, the Aston Martin AMV8 Vantage. It's just so smooth and classic.. but definitley modern too. It's a work of art.







    And for you SL (R230) lovers.. the SL looks even better with this Wald body kit (and wheels)..

    Yep, the AMV 8 is one of my favorites. Very smooth and clean design.
    I also like the Murcielago more than the Gallardo but I have yet to see a Gallardo in reality.
    I don't like the SLR too much but I do like the SL55.
    The Carrera GT also looks very good in reality but it reminds me more of a prototype racer regarding it's design.

    So maybe a AMV8 with the Mercedes V12 bi-turbo 612 HP engine, 1600 kg weight and the 4WD of the Murcielago would be my dream car. I'd take a plain stock Murcielago too.

    I'm torn between the Gallardo and AMV8. Very different design philosophies, but both striking in their own ways. Should be seeing the Gallardo in the not too distant future. Will take pics if I can and forward them to you RC.

    The AMV8 may not deliver in the performance area I'm affraid. By the time it comes out, I don't think anything around 350hp is going to cut it. I hope they at least offer something with 400hp+ and a suspension that is good at both GT driving and running hard in the curves.

    RC, the Gallardo is pretty stunning in person. It has the similar demeanor of the Murcielago, but without the bulk. The sharp edges and shape reminded me of seeing an old Ferrari Testarossa mated with a 360 Modena. I love it.

    Looking at the Gallardo, I think this has to be one of the best designs. A consistent, cohesive, balanced look where every line and curve is saying the same thing. It is outrageous and understated at the same time. It is really very remarkable.

    If you guys love the V8 Vantage then you'll love the new DB9.
    EVO has published the first official pics.
    Looks like a Vanquish but not as brutal, and the same rear as the V8 Vantage.
    Not to speak of the interior, maked my 996 feel like a Fiesta.
    Same intrument cluster as the concept car, BEAUTIFUL!!!
    A work of art.
    Possibly the best looking car right now for its perfect blend of aggression and class.
    1710 kgs.
    V12 442 hp
    0 to 100 in 4.9 secs.

    That is the rumor going around. I can tell you for sure that the car will be in Frankfurt for viewing by private invitation on a date that coincides with the show. So, the chances of seeing it publicly are probably high.

    Yes, definitly, Ulrich Bez confirmed it in the interview.
    I wonder why they didn't call it DB8 though?
    Bez's explaination is that the leap between the DB7 and this new car is so huge, they felt they'd make the point by jumping a number!
    I also think that since the future V8 Vantage will be the small Aston, and that the DB9 is 442 hp, the small one should be less than 400 with a V8.
