On 4th August 2005, Porsche tuner "edo competition" & KW suspension established a new lap record for road approved vehicles.
Edo's Porsche 996 GT 2 RS, excellently prepared and equipped with a KW variant 3 inox-line coilover, with rebound & bump adjustment, and a 612 hp engine, Patrick Simon went out for the big challenge.
For quite a long time Wolfgang Kaufmann was able to hold the lap record of 7.32.52 in a Gemballa Porsche, until he lost his record to Horst von Saurma in a Porsche Carrera GT, who then went on to beat Kaufmann with a lap time of 7.32.44. On 25th October 2004, Michael Düchting raised the stakes extremely higher and achieved a lap time and new lap record of 7.18.01 in his Donkervoort RS.
Last Thursday driver Patrick Simon of the edo competition group topped it all. The Donkervoorts spectacular record was broken after less than one year. With a 7.15.63 lap, Simon brought more than just a new minimum time to the Nordschleife.
Simon had not doubted his success for any minute...
The Nuerburgring Nordschleife is one of the most difficult tracks with so many different grip levels because of different road surfaces, weather conditions, etc... so the suspension also had a huge impact in the result. The cooperation with KW suspension was absolutely the right choice as such a partner really understands to provide the perfect material and know how for the setup work to achieve that fantastic goal.
