Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

Left car parked for two days. 2006 with 1500 miles. Now battery is dead. I am a very thorough person. I follow established procedures as part of my profession. I owned lots of cars and never drained a battery by leaving something amiss.

So it will be fun then the service advisor suggests that maybe _I_ messed up, NOT Porsche (yeah, no key left in ignition: not a proper procedure, etc).

Checked other threads and nobody seems to know what's going on. Just thought I'd chime in to keep issue updated.

Just for fun everybody here should leave their 2006 cars parked for two or three days and see how many batteries go dead.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

I leave my 997S in my garage for weeks at a time, locked and unlocked and have never had a problem starting the car.BTW, I do not have or use a trickle charger.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

You must have jinxed yourself with that other thread! I'll have to watch mine now.

Bad news indeed. Out of interest, were you using the battery maintainer? If so, which make? Let us know if you track it down to any specific thing.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

Back in Nov/Dec when I first got my 997S, I would leave the car in my garage for a week to 2 weeks between driving. No problems with the battery.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

That sucks Sir... Why is it that it's user error first all the time? grrr.

It IS funny. definitely jinxed! Me in that last thread overstating the problem.

The only thing I can relate to it was three days ago when the car did not start on the *first* turn of the key. THAT was weird for a computerized car, don't you think?

Maybe the battery has been draining constantly since day one and I didn't notice it until today, completely drained, after it had been sitting (for the first time) unused for two days. The non-start episode described above could have been evidence for this constant-drain thing.

Freaking me out, the only thing I can think of (as an amateur) is maybe the trunk light doesn't go out. It is impossible to see if it eventually goes off once the trunk is closed. I'll feel it and see if it is warm next time I open it.

I'm sure the service technician has a drawer full of technical buletins full of other possibilities. Probably all software related.
Will definitely let y'all know what they find.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

I left my car for around 3 weeks and its fine.. Good luck man

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

Do not park with the key in the ignition...that will drain the battery!

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

That stinks MMD. I hope they figure out what drained that thing so fast! I think you should climb into the trunk to make sure the light does go out when you close it. Don't worry, you can use the glow-in-the-dark trunk release to escape!

I had that happen to me at least 2-3 times. The first time, I didn't know what to do and it happened in front of my son's day care. I was wondering if I had to have my car towed away. That would have been pretty embarassing.

Now, I know to turn the key back all the way back to the off position and try again. Or take the key out and then try again.

Perhaps you were too engossed reading thru the manual muddling thru the procedures whilst your key is left in the ignition (engine off)?

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

Open the trunk and quickly feel if the bulb cover is hot.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

On my car, I can pull the key out even when the engine is running, and I can also pull it out before turing it left to turn the accessories mode off. Could that be the problem?

I know I should bring the car in for this, but as long as I know how to turn of my car, I'll just chalk it up to character!

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

I think the dead battery is possibly (or most likely) due to a faulty alternator (I had a faulty one on a 1999 T reg 996 Carrera 2 which drained the battery - I couldn't start the car and even when I could, electronics would malfunction while driving so the Tiptronic would not even work!) Best thing to do is get a Porsche garage to check your car out.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

Posted this previously. Still would be interested in any coments.

Any thoughts on the Green Knob.

It is a device when unscrewed severs the link on the negative terminal. Basically seems same as disconnecting negative terminal but leaving battery in the same place. Would the battery still drain since other metal is around it? I know this will reset my clock and perhaps my radio stations and other PCM functions, but a cannot use a battery maintainer since there are no outlets in many garages in Manhattan.

...also, remember to turn your headlights off. That can drain the battery as well.

Re: Dead Battery Claims Me as Yet Another Victim.

heh my dads 997s had a battery totally die after like 9 days... i wonder what caused that? the key was NOT in the ignition
