Also, I think very fast acceleration without good handling to match is asking for trouble.Smiley

In the USA, fast acceleration is the only meaningful spec.  Our speed limits are so slow that hustling up to them is all the fun one is permitted to have!

not just that Mike, I forgot all the slow traffics are driving on the fast lanes on highways Smiley

I test drove a Tesla modell X. Wasn't too impressed. It looks awkward, drive feel and handeling not great and interior doesn't justify the price tag. What I did like was the autonomous drive, very useful, I would like that on my next car. What is really annoying is all the rattles in the car and the tire noise, I kind of expected whisper mode, but it feels louder than my Cayenne.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

saw a new panamera turbo few days ago.....  a great looking car, the rear end is wonderfully crafted.  However, the price tag of US$350,000.00 tag price is unbearable.....  don't know what's all the price jump about this car.....

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

I saw the new Panamera in Paris a couple of days ago. VERY impressed with it. Looks so much better in the flesh than in pictures. It also looks smaller than the actual dimensions on paper and I think they really did nail it with this new version. It's more of revolution than evolution for this Panamera update compared with the old outgoing model and the new interior design is a smash hit.

Also wondered about to check out the competitors and tried out all sorts of cars with an open mind... Tesla Model X is more like a Van than a drivers car and I can't start to like the design either interior or exterior and that big screen in the center just looks hideous. In the Model S I hit my head in the roof in the back seat bench so can't really ride back there in comfort which in this type of car is quite important. Apart from the impressive 0-100 figures for the Tesla P100D and the autopilot there is nothing else that impress me with that car. I drove the Model S a few months ago and I was surprised with the high road noise, the numb handling, etc. Just a rather booring car that will serve it's purpose if you drive from A to B or need to impress at the dragstrip or redlight.

After having sat in all sorts of Audis, Merc AMG, Tesla, BMW's, etc I concluded that the Panamera does not really have any direct competitors and is a unique proposition in its class. The sporty looks, presence and interior ambiance is ahead of all competition. Also the new Porsche Innodrive sounds promising and will allow for autopilot drive at city speeds. It is reported to even manage steering through roundabouts without having a car in front. That's quite impressive and a nice add-on to the current adaptive cruise.

You must mean the cost in Hong Kong?  In the U.S., at least on the configurator, you can spec a fine turbo for $165, 000, and can normally knock off at least a 5% discount at purchase.  Not sure if that is a price increase over prior model...

I tried to configure as basic as possible that would still be acceptable to me, came up with $220k.Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Absent, I cannot imagine the specs you checked to reach this figure.  Would you share your specs?

I used the configurator and checked painted rims, special color, Burmeister, Sport Chrono, PDCC, Sport Design kit, Premium Package Plus, Carbon Interior package, special lights, etc., etc. and could;t reach 195K.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

    Also checked Ceramic brakes...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

I really like leather and alcantara everywhere so ordered all of those options, CCBs (a must for me), skipped only on Burmeister since I don't care about sound system (my hearing is affected since army days).

So basically close tot he price of a V8 GT4 Lusso. Ridiculous.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Ridiculous pricing? Maybe. But it will no doubt be one fabulous car.  If I had that kind of money to throw around ( I don't because I still have kids in college) I would buy one any day over the comparable Ferrari.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Well let's hope it is fabulous, the first gen Panamera was unimpressive on many levels...

On the plus side you'll be able to get a used one for $125K after a year or two. These high-spec/high-price Porsche Turbo models are worth dick after they leave the lot.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

On 04.11. the presentation of the new Panamera took place in and around Munich. I was invited by a Porsche center outside of Munich. The catering was quite ok and the setting was adequate. kiss
Well, if you can see the Panamera live, the previous impression I had of photos and videos hadn't been revised. It certainly looks appealing and modern, also the seating position is excellent. Nevertheless, the "spark" does not want to jump over. Unfortunately. In spite of all this, the genuine Porsche DNA, which still had something more the 1. gen.  Panamera, was missing. Can't help me. yes

Thank you Conny!  Real life photos and impressions are key to understanding the appeal (or not) of the new Panamera, especially as the changes from the 1st generation are quite striking.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Thanks Conny. Any thoughts as to why it feels like the Porsche DNA is missing?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Was at the local dealership too - to my surprise they had already a Turbo as a demo car which ran the whole day - absolutely loved the interior - and got some interesting News - December 2017 Cayenne........angry

I have the same feeling...the Macan tail lights could be one problem but the too large headlights as well. I like the interior a lot but while I think that the Panamera is at the design level it should have been from the start, I am missing the Porsche DNA here as well.

Same with the Macan Turbo: The first Porsche I don't like. I just drove another 600 km with it (Austria ski trip) and while the Macan Turbo is fast, it felt like driving any other SUV. Actually, my Jeep SRT feels more special.

Perfection can sometimes mess up things...look at my former 991.1 Turbo S. The new 991.2 Turbo S may be a fantastic sports car but this isn't enough anymore. I have a through "discussion" about that with some people at Porsche and nobody can actually "follow" my claims but this is how I feel. I got fed up with the Boxster-like interior and that soul-less engine, sorry... Smiley Time for Porsche to remember the "old" times without forgetting the future.

If I had to choose a sporty sedan though, the Panamera Turbo would certainly be one of the first three (together with the Audi S8 and new E63 S AMG) on my list.

I'm confused. Thus this mean that this car wan't introduced yet? It is kind a "cold coffee", isn't it?

Interesting that you guys are saying that the rear lights might be a problem. For me the rear is the only improved part of this car. But yeah - seeing that Photo above, I think the same - it looks a bit boring. As I did see plenty of those cars before (even been driving it long time ago), I know that the picture doesn't do justice. The rear looks great to me.

Regarding perfection - it messed up the 991. The car is way to perfect, it is utmost boring to drive. Well, at least the Carrera S I used to own.

True but the handling and the engine sound make up for it. I just got bored of the interior...you basically have the same interior on the 911, Boxster and Cayman and almost with no variation in design.

I still believe however that Porsche knows what they're doing and we are not their typical target audience I'm afraid.

Base price in Germany 89k EUR...ouch. Too much money for such a car in my opinion, especially since you can easily add options for 30-40k EUR.
