    Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

after a life of Porsche's the Ferrari may be the next chapter ... I was a die hard Porsche fan for 20 years and 10 911's but they lost me with the 996 and the 997 is not enough to come back now that I have seen the 430 Spider ....... If anyone has any links are articles on the difference between owning the different cars please post I found this one ... I guess it will come down to a 997 turbo cab vs a 430 spider ... which would you want ?

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

I was on the wait list for the Spider but after seeing the coupe and spider side by side at my dealer I asked him to put me in the coupe instead. Lots of reasons besides the looks which is a big one. If I'm going to trade in a Stradale I want the most hardcore 430 I can buy. CCM brakes, racing seats etc. Those things are counter the Spiders image. I want something that is more race car then a convertible. But this is also because I want a convertible for everyday and the Porsche is a better everyday car. I agree with everyone that cutting off the roofs on these cars do nothing to help the looks when the top is up. I rather do it on a Porsche then a Ferrari. And with the Ferrari you lose even more of the cars design in the convertible form then the Porsche. There's really something frumpy about the whole F430 Spider from the doors back, it looks like a big box, especially the top of the car (the engine glass and hatch) behind the doors. It very long and flat to the back of the car. But if I wasn't intent on getting the 997 Turbo Cab for everyday and the 430 for weekends and could only buy one car it would probably be the 430 Spider if my heart was making the decision (but then how would I get to work everyday.) If my brain was making the decision and I could only buy one then I'd buy the 997 Turbo Cab.

But Unless you don't mind forking over $50,000 msrp plus for the Spider now then put down a deposit immediately for a new Spider at MSRP, buy the 997 Turbo Cab now (when it comes out) and drive the Turbo CAB for a year or two or three enjoying it while you wait for the 430 Spider. And by the time the Spider comes out you'll probably be in a positive equity position with the Turbo Trade in so it wont seem like as big a jump in costs. The hardest thing imo is not having any sports car at all. If you could walk into a dealer and buy either one off the lot then there would be more of a decision to make but that ain't going to happen.

I love my Ferrari but there's something more fun about the Porsche. I think it has a lot to do with how easy it is to use as a commuter car everyday. How easy and comfortable it is to carve around traffic. How it seems to shrink around you when you drive it hard. the 430 will feel like a bigger car. The 997 Turbo Cab you can take anywhere, anytime and still kick ass.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

    Easy one, Ferrari.....more pure IMO.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

Thanks Stradale--very helpful. I'm wrestling with the same issue, Porsche vs Ferrari and Porsche vs Lambo for my next choice after the 997. The sticking point for me is the reliability issue and M&R costs relative to my 997, which has a maintenance cycle of 20k miles and very high mean-time-between failures. I started meeting people through Ferrarichat, going on group drives, etc., and so far I'm beginning to love my Porsche even more listening to their stories. Eh, whatever. I'd better keep an open mind and continue to listen. Where's Nick, when you need him? Which is best for me: 911 Turbo, F430, Gallardo, the new Dino? I'm soooo confused!

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

Just into my 30s and just into 997. I cannot wait until I have this difficult decision. I will be back in 4 years to discuss the issue then.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

thanks STRADALE ...... at this point I will not pay almost 100k over sticker it just seems like you are paying for something you are not getting . I guess the Ferrari is just in another league when it comes to the money if you want a Ferrari you can not be sweating the cash you will be spending . I have a friend of mine who had a 360 and now has the 430 , he said that they came a long way with this new model said it is a real car now (whatever that means ) .

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

I felt very similarly until I got my CGT. The CGT is such a emphatic answer to Ferrari, et al and so perfect in every way, that it made my CS feel rather "gimicky" (for lack of a better word). Just my .02 of course.

That being said. I still love my 430. Let the battle rage on....

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

thanks again Amir ... so if you pay 100K+ over sticker for a 430 spider you are close to CGT with low miles ... hmmmm when you look at it like that the choice does seem clear . Now for a nice road trip the CGT has no trunk space with the top off so I guess you need to fed ex the bags to your destination .

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

Sometimes we all need a change of pace.
I can see how someone wouldn't be inspired by the 996, and while I really like the 997, if you don't like it very much you shouldn't consider it.
I'd say give the Ferrari a good, long look. Talk to a lot of owners and do some research. If you're still interested in what the car has to offer, I say go for it.

I have always wanted to know what kind of time the Enzo would have been able to put down at the Nurburgring. Why didn't they run it there?
Were they scared of the CGT? It sure looks like it.
Maybe they should run the Enzo at the 'ring to see if it's faster than the CGT, and then run the CGT at Fiorano to see if it's slower than the Enzo there.

I love the Enzo and if I was ever lucky enough to find one at MSRP (Yeah right) I'd be the first one in line. But in speaking to several people who do own both cars, they all say that the CGT is the more exciting of the two cars to drive. They mainly state that the F1 transmission is what makes it less exciting versus the CGT.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

A Ferrari is not for everyone and thank God for that.

If you want to drive it to work and make it a daily car it can be one except you would need to put up with all the attention it will receive. Drive a Porsche especially in S. CAlifornia and you might as well drive a Ford. It would be like driving a CGT to work everyday.

Honestly, maintenance is overstated as an issue with the late model Ferrari's. However I do not want to dissuade anyone from that canard.

Stradle suggested buying a TT cab and driving it for a couple of years while waiting for the 430 Spider or coupe. The only problem with that strategy is the financial beating you will take in holding the TT cab for those years. The depreciation will be epic on the car.

Bottom line; buy the car that has the attributes to make your driving experience enjoyable and not leave you wanting for something else.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

    Very well said Nick!

if you buy a 430 spider at the going rate of 340k+(which is what you must pay to get one) what do you think it will be worth in a few years ?

The depreciation on the 430 Ferrari will be minimal. More importantly, once you have established the relationship with the Ferrari dealer, your future Ferrari's will be at MSRP with little waiting and profitable resale. Additionally, you will be now be in the enviable going forward position of driving a new Ferrari at little or no cost.

BTW I am not advocating buying a 430 Spider at its top premium. That is something you must decide based on your needs and financial situation. There are other alternatives which can be discussd and negotiated with your local Ferrari dealer.

When I sold my 996 Cab, I took a $40,000 loss. With my Cayenne, I will experience a similar loss. I am determined never to put myself in that position again.

    Re: Poesche Vs Ferrari .............

someone who bought a 360 spider a few years ago and had to pay over sticker now what can they sell it for with say 30 or 40 thousand miles ? Will they not loose about a 100k compared to only loosing 40K on the 996TT .

If you believed them...then why did you buy the F430 with F1?
