My 04 M3 Vs. 06 997S (small point about ride comfort)

One thing I noticed about these cars on the same crummy road. When they're all warmed up. The Carrera has a smoother ride than the BMW! Less of the vibration and fewer of the bumps are felt in the Porsche! Kind of surprising, wouldn't you say? Both cars have recco'd air pressure and stock tires, etc., etc.. This one section of road should be a test track because they messed something up when laying it's foundation; there's a couple miles of consistent unevenness so it's perfect to make my totally amateur comps. Even my current wife noticed the difference. The M3 has the stock 18s too. Carrera has the 19s of course (but the overall BMW diameter is smaller by one inch). Wow. Niiiice car the Carrera.

Your current wife? What is she, on lease?

Re: My 04 M3 Vs. 06 997S (small point about ride comfort)

Remember to always introduce your wife as her number in the lineup ie: May I introduce my first wife, etc. This way there will be no confusion.

Re: My 04 M3 Vs. 06 997S (small point about ride comfort)

I don't think my wife would like me introducing her to everyone as my "2nd wife". But I'll try and see if she gets upset.

Oh, I'm betting she will get really upset. That's why "current wife" is soooo much better; it doesn't put a priority on it. "First wife," "second wife," "third wife" sounds too much like first place second place, etc. It is a competitive situation but I think it's better to downplay that.

But the label "current wife" sounds like she's going to replaced at some point in the future...

    Hmmm....

Yeah, good point, that's the down side of "current wife." But the good aspect is that it gives other women hope.

I just hope your 'current' wife never reads that last post.

Re: My 04 M3 Vs. 06 997S (small point about ride comfort)

MMD having sold my 2002 M3 Coupe with 18's (about 1 year ago) its hard for me to make a direct comparison but from what I remember the M3 was softer riding with a bit more body roll. The M3 is a great car for the $$ and perfect if you have 2 kids to lug around in the rear seats over the age of 8. You can get into one for almost 1/3 (or less) of the cost of the 997 optioned out the same. Its still my choice hands down for its price range although I hear Audi has a beast in the works (I never thought Audis were as attractive) but the 997 is on another level and if your lucky enough to afford one go for it. Never underestimate the capabilities of an E46 M3 or you might be in for a surprise. With equal driving skills and stock vehicles the 997 and 997S are quicker and handle better. Also the Porsche feels more connected to the road and feels more like a sport car than the Bimmer. The 911 is just one unique car and thats why we pay the big $$$ to drive one.

From what i remember, the Porsche has a smoother ride.
The Beemer always seems to be fidgety on 2nd rate roads.
