    Call from Dealer

Dealer called to ask me about specs for their initial allotments. When I arrived they could not get access to 2006 dealer allocations promised to them by Porsche yesterday. Supposedly they will call me tomorrow if they have access. Not sure I'm ready to actually place an order at this time, but I'd like to see their electronic order guide. I'm a little skeptical about the Cayman specs prior to Frankfurt. Seems to me they would most likely be generic 987. Naturally if there is something interesting to report I'll pass it on. Dealer said no new colors for 06, seems probable.

    Re: Call from Dealer

I agree, seems a little far out to actually be specing one.....especially a new model, and just like a lot of early 911 ordering went there will most likely only be very common options offered with little deviation. Talked to my dealer about two weeks ago and they had heard nothing solid yet and were pretty much still telling me the Sept/Oct time frame would be the time to spec. Who knows though....dealers are dealers and sometimes the last to know what's *really* going on. No new colors.....well thats good and bad at the same time. I was hoping to see a couple of new ones, but then again I can't even decide from the group thats available!

    Re: Call from Dealer

I got the same call. I am looking for March delivery so I will be dropping down the list for a couple of months.

Any how do we know this? Anyone on the list get a confirmed order in hand yet? Are they ordering "lot" cars or to customer spec?

Got my reservation, just wondering how you spec a car when even perliminary ordering guides aren't out yet. I'm sure they could submit a black on black if I wanted it....that's easy. I still want to know what the "Interior Design Package in Exterior Colour" option is, see pictures of the bi-color interiors, etc. Haven't spotted any of that info anywhere yet.

    Re: Call from Dealer

Good question about the IDP, who knows. Your saleperson should be able to walk you through all the rest of the options. Get with it, get your order in the system.

    Re: Call from Dealer

    Hey Guys,

My Dealer just called and said that they should have the order guide up and running this week. They have been allocated 6 Cayman S cars for November, December, and January build dates. Delivery of the November and December builds might occur PRIOR to the official US launch date of January 15. I am number 4 on the list.

    Re: Call from Dealer

I just had a call from my (UK) dealer too. Apparently my car will be built in November (I expected February).

    Re: Call from Dealer

I believe for the US the first production will be in November for delivery in Jan.

    Re: Call from Dealer

The "story" I got over the weekend was that dealers can spec their Cayman allotments. However, they did not have access to the Porsche allocation computer yet for 06 Boxster or Cayman as they were expecting along with 997 (which was released end of last week and guides are up on Renntech). I have yet to hear from the dealer (Braman). FWIW Braman's thinking is that the Cayman guide will be essentially 987 so the Finnish option site may be misleading. As we all know, PCNA makes the call about what we get to choose. One more tidbit. According to Braman, based on their previous orders, if you get paint to sample you cannot do any interior pieces in the paint to sample color. I've still be toying with an old Porsche color, but my enthusiasm is waning. Based on the 997 guide there do not appear to be any new colors which I had also be told.

    Re: Call from Dealer

Thanks for sharing Dave. It's kind of tough getting the "first" of a new issue from Porsche....your options are usually pretty limited until production gets rolling....always hated this. I think everything should be offered from the get go. Just like the PTS.....if your going to do it make sure you can do all what the customer wants.....they already warn you that it will take longer so why can't they make it happen?

    Re: Call from Dealer

Right now I'm leaning toward white with the stone/black interior and maybe some carbon bits. Yellow with black and some exterior color on the black would also be a possibility. A post on Rennlist said somebody spec'd a Cayman at 85K which is really crazy I think. Probably pass on the PASM but I think the sportchrono may be necessary, stick with the 18" Cayman wheels. I was very impressed with the 987S I drove so I'm less concerned about waiting to actually drive the Cayman, but part of me thinks that waiting until the options and specs are fully sorted out (Nov/Dec) may still be the best way to go.

    Re: Call from Dealer

I would definitely pass on PASM and consider aftermarket suspension, if you plan on much track use. It's nice to have this option (which is not available for the 997S)...

    Re: Call from Dealer

I just got a call from my dealer this morning. I am currently exploring Cambodia so didn't speak to my dealer for long. But for those in Australia who are interested, the Cayman will come in at just under $150k, which is great news. He will give me a call again when the price and spec for Australia is confirmed.

I just ordered my car (UK)

    November production, November delivery (allegedly).
The options that are not available at launch in the UK appear to include:
    - Porsche Entry & Drive (?)
    - 5mm spacers
    - Sports exhaust
    - 19" Carrera Sport wheels
    - Interior matching exterior paint
    - Steering column leather
    - Voice control
    - Electronic logbook
    - Extended navigation

I would be interested to hear if anyone has any different information.
There is no spare wheel option although that is listed on the Finnish option list.

Re: I just ordered my car (UK)

Hmmm, the only one I was interested in was the "Interior matching exterior paint" option. I think that's a whole option package though. All I want is the rear center column painted in my exterior color.....hope that's still a go.

It seems that my dealer wasn't 100% correct

After checking with Porsche GB the extended navigation IS available from launch in the UK.
I suspect that this might become "standard" navigation in the future.
