that's almost a gallon of oil in the pic!
Mike S,
This is actually a good place to obfuscate on this thread, since this has to do with metric versus Imperial conversions (we Yankees stick with good ol' Imperial in everyday life
):
You are correct that 4 liters is ALMOST a gallon, IF you are converting to an Imperial United Kingdom "standard" gallon, also true if converting to an Imperial United States "dry" gallon, BUT NOT if converting to an Imperial United States "liquid" gallon (used here for all liquids, not just oil but also beer
).
1 liter = 0.2641721 US ("liquid") gallon; hence 4 liters of Mobil 1 oil = 1.0566884 gallons;
1 liter = 0.2270207 US ("dry") gallon; 4 liters = 0.9080828 gallon;
1 liter = 0.2199692 UK gallon; 4 liters = 0.8798768 gallon.
In science in the US, we learn from grammar school all the conversions, and I like to rehash these calculations to remind me of these differences. It's enough to have to convert from metric to Imperial and vice versa, let alone knowing which "type" of gallon to which to convert. Does SA use the "UK" standard for gallons?
