I don't expect anything as good as the external cannister adjustable Nitrogen pressure Motons (or Ohlins), since there is too much liability if someone doesn't charge them properly with enough/too much nitrogen. But, at least they will be well-tuned to the car...

Re: Some new GT3 spy pics

Good point, I'm just hoping that the form of adjustability brings improvement to the suspension, like motons vs. standard shocks, instead of hindering the suspension, like pasm vs. -20 mm.

Yes, I think it will be an improvement (much better than PASM) - I think...

I think the best we can hope for is something like the Bilstein PSS9, which is a nice system, but not in the Moton/Ohlins class...

    Check these out:
    http://www.ohlins.com/pdf/ttx.pdf

They cost over $10k for a set (and not yet available in struts)

One other note about the fancy nitrogen coilovers is that they need to be rebuilt every couple years and I can't see Porsche going for this with a street car...

Re: Some new GT3 spy pics

Nice shocks. Although the ease of adjustability and the fact that one adjustment doesn't change another would help a race team, I think it would benefit the novice track day enthusiast even more since us non-experts often don't get the full performance of our upgrades because we can't tune them.

Keith - I agree. I'm certainly intimidated by the infinite combos of settings and gas pressure (as well as spring rates) with modern coilovers. It's one of the reasons I've stayed with my Bilstein RSR's - only height adjustable - then I use adjustable swaybars for balance. I know I could be alot faster with true adjustables (IF I set them right), but the potential for getting it really wrong does scare me...

Couldn't agree more. If the new GT3 has an adjustable suspension that is fool-proof, that would make the ultimate track car. Could the suspension also be 'soften' for daily road use, like PASM but with a different focus. If the suspension is truly adjustable like a top coil over system wouldn't it allow adjustments that would make it more 'streetable' as well as adjustable for track conditions?

Yes, within a certain amount. To really change from street to track settings and not compromise on either, you'd need to change spring rates too. However, this would be an interesting area to explore (as would variable ride height at the touch of a button like on some top ferrari models).

Re: Some new GT3 spy pics

The right words from Rohrl were that you can stiffen the suspension when you go to a track..and when you return on the road you can make again "more soft" as before

I think you can make it from hard to really hard...not from soft to hard like PASM...
    can't wait to see it!

Re: Some new GT3 spy pics

Tomorrow Sergini come back from the ring and at the Phone five minutes ago tell me that he has new pictures of the 997 Gt3..

    can't wait to see them!

This is all very intriguing, can't wait to get more info. Thanks for relaying the Rohrl conversation to us, what a great source! Thanks Super Darius.

Terms like "soft" and "hard" are of course subjective. I don't think PASM in normal mode would be considered "soft" unless it is relative to the stiffest track set up. I seems to me, and I certainly am no engineer, that the only system for adjusting the suspension from the cockpit would be an air/gas system. Won't actuating mechanical parts like springs and sway bars require motors and more parts, etc.?

Everyone I know that has met Rohrl has said the same thing, what a cool & friendly down-to-earth guy he is.

    So in coclusion:

    - 3.8l but not 997S derived, its a dry sump for the GT3 as expected, I asume derived form the 3.6l of it predecesor 996GT3.

    - 997TT faster than the F430, wouldn't be anyother way

    - no DSG/PDK standard on GT3, at least on first year. This is good news for the manual drivers since the DSG/PDK looks like an option only.

    - RS version of the GT3 will be produced

    - I curious about the GT3's special suspension though. He said you can adjust harshness "like the PASM" but I suspect it will not be the PASM electronic active suspension type since that would hinder the GT3's performance. I believe he may be talking about a coilover system were you can adjust the harshness (along with height) but they are a traditional shock/spring but manually adjustable (not on-the-fly with a button like the PASM though) which is very appropiate for track cars.

but will it be faster than a C6 Z06?
