Thanks for starting with the "obvious." Often times we're all going sooooo fast we miss the obvious.
There's no cd in there. All I've been doing is pressing the eject button I do not know anything about "recycling the program." The thing doesn't do anything but say "no CD." It won;t even pull the CD into the slot. The screen doesn't even switch over to CD info. I guess the switch-over occurs when the cd is successfully pulled into the machine.
Hummmm, disconnecting the battery seems intriging. Does it help problems like this sometimes? Isn't it a pain to mess up the massive electronic component of the rest of the car? Maybe I'll find the PCM fuse and yank it out for a few minutes.

Looks like you will be getting a replacement PCM. Just make sure it is the same model as the one you have now (Post Mid-April '05 build).
My 997S was built last September and I have had the PCM replaced and the Navi DVD player replaced at differwent times.

I've seen a multitude of CD player complaints. My CD player hasn't failed me yet, but it leaves me "wondering" every once in awhile. It seems to be rather moody. Sometimes I'll insert a CD, and it'll load up and play in a matter of seconds. Other times, it'll suck in the CD and just sit there pondering the possibilities of whether it's going to play my CD. And when I finally get frustrated and go to press some buttons, it comes to life. It's spooky to say the least. But it has not officially "died" on me yet.

My CD player has also given up. It ejected the CD by itself during night and after that it will not let me insert a CD again. Guess the gadget feeding the CD in place is fault, but all very strange. Why would it eject the CD by itself? Talked to my dealer and I will get it replaced on warranty latest next week.

I think it is because electrons are coursing thru everything on the car even when it's parked and the key is removed. So I'm speculating that the chips governing the eject/inject mechanism gave up and just before they died they spit out the CD.
It's really a different feeling owning this car with respect to the electronic components. It's a computer which nobody should mess with unless they have the specific training.
I'm afraid some day the whole system will crash and I'll be stuck because it won't even start; and NOT because of a simple, isolatable, understandable, starter malfunction!

Really weird because I shoved a CD in there about 3/4 of the way and have been driving around like that for a while hoping the thing would kick in. Well this morning my "dead" CD player shoved the CD out!! really crazy Absolutely no life from the CD from the moment I tried it for the first time and now more than a week and 500 miles on the car and last night it spits the thing out. Still doesn;t work, BTW.

Heh, mine did similar things before it gave up completely. At one point it did not let me eject the CD for a few days, then it popped out during night and after that it worked fine again... until it died
