    Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

    Folks,
as the hallowed day of delivery draws near, the OPC are trying to flog me the usual spaff that goes on top of every car purchase. I have already decided to go with VRI, but this is the latest. Autoglym Lifeshine is a treatment for the paintwork and interior (inc glass) that carries a warranty for 10 years. It includes a certificate proving its worth which is meant to enhance resale value and most importantly, it is meant to keep the paintwork in excellent condition. I think this may be usefull as my car will be basalt.

It is going to cost Pounds200, and this includes Pounds80 worth of Autoglym 'goodies' in a nice little car care pack. The OPC is saying that its worth having and will keep the paint finish looking much better than a non treated car.

SO, do any of you have any experience with this. Is it any good and does it do what it says on the tin??

Thansk for any heads up on this one.

    Cheers,

    JZ

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

    JZ ,

Autoglym has a good reputation but what does the small print state with regard to bird droppings and tree sap etc etc , does it protect from these everyday hazards ? . Price -- seems fair ..

    throt..

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Also I should think you got to use there aftercare products throughout ownership to validate the warranty ..

    ( Keep Receipts ) ..

    throt..

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

I've had this done, but not by OPC.

See www.clean-image.co.uk for some good info.

I personally think it provides a little extra protection against environmental damage. It won't protect against chips, and is probably only marginal against scratching.

Pounds200 is quite a good price.. as long as they take the time to do it properly.

You still need to wax it occasionally for a good shine.

This is one of those subjects with polarised views I'm afraid!

My other half has had Lifeshine on her Freelander for 2 years, and it has kept the paint in pretty good nick despite hardly ever getting washed.

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Have found the actual LifeSHine kits on Ebay for about Pounds15. There is no way I'm paying the OPC Pounds200 for this. I'll do it myself!!

I am not convinced that the warranty is really worth it either. It says that it doesn't cover you for damage done by bird lime or tree sap or scrathces. Those are the three things that I really want anyway, so I guess I'll get a kit off Ebay.

    Cheers,

    JZ

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Can you post a link to the eBay lifeshine kit you found?

The stuff they use for the lifeshine is NOT the same stuff as the maintenance kit you get to look after your car afterwards. I was shown the cans in the kit that the dealer/valeter used. It is professional use only. I'd be nervous about doing this myself and getting an even finish first time.

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Looking on ebay, you're right, you can get the professional kits for Pounds15 as you say.

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Yep, you don't get the aftercare pack (a quick trip to Halfords for the choice elements), but I wouldn't b worried about applying it to the bodywork. I imagine it goes on like standard polish and anyhow, there are instructions with it as well.

The glass care can't be too hard either and the leather spray, well, thats self explanatory.

I self applied a supaguard for my current car and it really wasn't too hard at all.

I'm willing to lavish some time and TLC on my new car when I get it. Shoudld be a good 'bonding' session just after delivery

    Cheers,

    JZ

Yup - most of the stuff in the aftercare pack you rarely use. Have a good bonding session!

Re: Autoglym 'Lifeshine' Bollox or Brilliant?

Mine was done at the OPC (using Jewelultra Diamondbrite), mainly because the car is parked outside in any weather. If the sealant contributes to lessen the environment impact on the paint I'll be content. I apply the after-care conserver only about once every two months.
