Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

A few weeks ago, a distinguished rennteamer said us that he had gotten into the habit of driving his sport cars without shoes, just socks (!)."...
Interesting, although slightly unelegant, solution : isn't it ?

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

    Puma, Puma...

Most styles run a bit small- order up a full size or 1/2 size.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

Forget about puma shoes!!, everyone wears puma shoes ....

I wear converse(have them in blue, white and dark green), they are excellent for driving....very good sensation with the pedals!!!!....that's only my opinion ...

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

The 1320 model looks to be an all around driving shoe.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

    I like the Piloti myself:

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

I have always liked Adidas Tuscanys. They are extremely comfortable and are great in and out of the car. I have a few pairs of these and IMHO they work very well.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

I tend to like my Ferragamo sneakers - just the right size :-D

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

No offense but i wear my reef flops, $22, good feel and they are comfortable as hell out of the car.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

I have tried quite a few driving shoes in the past several months. I have big feet, YMMV.

I like the Piloti DTM and the Oakley 1320 the best.

If I'm going to be walking around a lot while wearing the driving shoes, the Pilotis feel better in the non-car mode.

If I'm only driving with maybe a quick stop for gas, the Oakley 1320s are my favorite.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

Thanks for everyone's input, greatly appreciated.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

Pilotis are great. I have 2 pairs of DTM's. A 3rd pair that I'm not sure which model and these Rallye's which match the Black Alcantara / Red stitching of the interior of my Challenge Stradale like they were made just for that purpose:

I myself have VERY wide feet. Would you recomend the Pilotis?

Unfortunately, I find the Pilotis fairly narrow - maybe too much for you. I think they make them narrow on purpose so they're agile on the pedals. You'd need to try them with the option to return them if they don't fit...

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

I couldn't imagine having wider feet than I have now - the with wide shoes my left foot gets stuck between the clutch and footrest

I have SORT of wide feet. 12E

I bought the Oakley 1320s 1/2 size bigger (12.5) than I usually wear, and that way they are wide enough. The Piloti DTMs were wide enough in my normal size (12).

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

I have Piloti Monacos and Oakley 1320s. The Piloti's are a bit hotter because they're Nomex-lined. They also have an edge in walking around, they're more sneaker-like, only with a rolled heel.

The 1320s have a thinner, stiffer sole, much less padding, more like a pure driving shoe. For serious driving, the 1320s have an edge, especially if a small footbox or big feet are involved.

If it's going to be wet, or I'm going to do a lot of walking, or walking on poor surfaces, I'll use the Monacos. If the weather is good and it's a serious drive, I'll use the 1320s with a thin wool-nylon liner sock from SmartWool.

    Jim

    I don't like the Pilotis

I had 2 pair of them and recently tossed them. Also it depends what you want these driving shoes for? Is this just for spirited driving in the 911 or for racing or karting or something? For spitited driving in the 911 you do not need ankle coverage. A good pair of low top thin tennis shoes will do fine.

The reasons I don't like the Piloti's are that the sole is VERY thick and I can't really feel the pedals. Also they entire shoe is just kind of BULKY....

As far as good shoes check out these adidas...

I use those or indoor soccer shoes for spirited driving in the 911. You'll look like a moron with full driving shoes in the 911 unless you're at the track.

For RACING you need nomex and ankle coverage... I suggest ALPINESTARS - they are REALLY the best. Used by many F1 stars and SUPER comfortable....

Same with GLOVES if you need those - they are THE BEST you can buy....

Alonso, Button, Coulthard, Raikkonen... all wear A-STARS..

Yep, these are the ones I was referring to and they are great. The thin sole is just right for pedal feel. I also like soccer shoes (the indoor kind) for general spirited driving. I have worn them since my high school and college soccer days for every-day use, driving and, sometimes, even soccer.

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

    puma racecats

Re: Are these driving shoes any good?

    Love puma speedcats...
