I'm sorry, but I find nothing romantic about leaving dirty equipment dirty for any extended time. Yes, it's fun getting them dirty, but then, you've got to suck it up and clean her up. Even race teams are QUICK to clean up their car between runs, so it looks proud and proper, and reflects well on the driver and team.

Racing dirtbikes, you get DIRTY, and it's an absolute blast. It's fun getting them dirty. You can't tell what color the bike used to be after a race. But before everybody at the race loads up their equipment, there's a long line down at the waterhoses, and guys sharing pressure washers, as EVERBODY gets their bike and gear tight and right and looking new again before they load back into the trailer. None of the top teams toss dirty stuff into their trailers to take home. It's an ethic, it's the way you treat your hard-earned stuff with respect. The guys who don't, are the trailer-trash hacks who don't find it important. They rarely are competitive either, I wonder what the relationship is there??

"Look at me, I've lived a full life, and I look like warmed-over death....I smell like it too....that's what I was born for, right???". Not in my book. Yes, someday we'll all get wrinkles and sag a bit. But I don't use that as an excuse to just give up, and let myself go to hell. I'm not going to give up and just say "f*** it", and stop bathing regularly, and not shave, and instead of taking the garbage to the curb, just start piling up the bags in my living room like a psychopath, and start eating donuts and sticks of butter every meal, all because death and entropy is unavoidable. I've got my self pride, I'll do my best to keep my body and my health tip-top, and I'll wear clean underwear every day too. I won't have plastic surgery, or swallow a bunch of pills. I'll just have pride and ambition to take reasonable care of myself.

I'll take care of my car too, and with 100,000 miles on it, it'll still look dynamite, rather than looking like it got BLOWN UP by dynamite!!

Today I saw a mat black 996 in town...
I had heared about this car before, but had not seen it yet. The owner always paints his cars in mat black...!!!

Most of the time I either look on the 997 or Ferrari board and that's it. I have to get out to the other boards more often.

Well, dear 69bossnine and other friends rennteamers, as I said : yes I do like sometimes to have a dirty car, sometimes a clean one. So there will be AT LEAST ONE lazy stinking psychopath here on this pretty clean forum, among an army of courageous carriers of clean underwear, who are proudly and ambitiously facing death, entropy, garbage in their living-rooms and filth on their cars.

Black always looks good in the shade .. but in direct sunlight it can be a whole other story depending on the angle of the car ... how clean it is ... ect. etc .. but I still love it especially when it is in the shade .

Sorry to invade your board with a picture of a '06 987 S but I'm going to, cause it's black and it's damn beautiful. It's seriously the classiest colors IMHO, and I'd even go as far as calling it a humble color (as opposed to speed yellow . It came down to Atlas Gray, GT Silver and Black. Basalt black I thought had an identity crisis - wasn't really black, with a speckling of gray. GT Silver also cost an arm, a leg, an ear and an eye so I went with black, and I have no regrets. Btw, on this picture I'm attaching, how do I get this sticky stuff off my wheels - I wouldn't call it tar, but it's like someone just peeled off a sticker off my wheel prematurely and left the adhesive on the tire...

The black stuff on your Classics is actually rubber from your tires... it it difficult to remove because it is hot when it attaches itself. I use Tarminator tar, grease and sap remover, removes it extremely easy, like your wiping off dust. Bought it at AutoZone. Beautiful car, I've got straight black with Classics too, love that look!

Actually, I thought that black stuff was left over adhesive material from the protective barriers placed during shipping. Is that incorrect?

I'm not really sure - when I first picked it up in the showroom I didn't notice it (but that's probably cause I was so excited I really didn't get a chance to look - especially since they put my car in between a Gallardo and a Continental GT in the showroom) - I noticed it after a couple of drives....it comes off but it takes forever to pull off....it could be the adhesive - but I'd think the dealer would have cleaned that up in time for delivery
