    Re: choice of color?

Thanks Skinny!! Looks like a Riviera Blue Cayman might be in my future....guess I'll have to get a special option Porsche cushion (custom fitted to the sport seat of course) to ease my painful rear end. Might have to avoid using the PASM and Sport chrono until I can sit down again.......

Mike, I really like that colour! Is that a paint to sample? It looks much darker in the 914 than the 996TT.

very similar to the lobster 19's except without the outter opening at the edge

    Re: choice of color?

With the orange, I was sort of aiming at the colour used for the F1 LM.
(BTW - the wheels are just the Carrera S with the holes smoothed out, bit like the Carrera Cups of yore).

The '70 914 is original Signal ORANGE (#116) while the TT is paint-to-sample Signal YELLOW (#114).

    Re: choice of color?

Ya, actually the red, orange, and white all look better than I thought they would. Don't like the yellow too much though.....it looks good on a 997, but given the shape of the Cayman it looks too much like a banana on wheels for me.

Two colors that I would spend decent $$$ on would be the dearly departed Polar Silver and the mid-90's color Amazon Green.....perfect for a Cayman.....

I have never seen either of the signal colours. You guys in the States are much more adventurous than we are in colours! I love both colours, but I can imagine a Cayman in signal orange. Stunning!

    Re: choice of color?

Mike, That 914 is sweet ! Looks brandy new ! Don't ever sell that one. Revvv

Paint to sample is a neat option but you might as well kiss $4,300 goodbye once you do it.....most of the time you won't even get a small percentage back on any paint that costs a premium.

That's true if you buy. But if you lease, you'll get more than half back after 3 years in the form of higher residual value.

    Re: choice of color?

I am seriously thinking white if I buy one. White is the traditional Porsche racing colour and it looks great on the Cayman. Anyone knows what kind of white the racing colour is? What kind of white is on the RS Spyder? GT1? The new GT3 racer that they unveiled recently?

    Re: choice of color?

Could be true.....but Porsche doesn't "have" to lease the car to you. According to my salesman if a color combination is to far out of the mainstream they could choose not to lease it.....they know they could get stuck with a white elephant down the road. They also tend to put much more restrictions on what money is due up front and how much is lost if the buyer backs out. I also believe (could be wrong) the color is also reviewed by Porsche to make sure it is a doable option. People that have dropped a good amount of $$$$ at a dealer over the years may get more consideration than others as to what colors could actually be done. Not me talking here.....just straight talk from a good salesman at a large dealership.....the "to sample" world is a bit like politics according to him.

Any paint-to-sample car is a big risk on resale....pick a color such as Polar Silver, Iris Blue, etc......and you should have no problem....may even be highly desireable. Pick a color such as the blue or orange mentioned in this thread and you better be prepared to buy and keep it for a while......and just be prepared to wait a while when trying to sell it in the future.

A lot of people think these colors are great (myself included).....but there will be very few people that will actually drop dime to own one....myself included also.

I guess you're merely to young to remember them. In the late '60s and early '70s there were more of these "jelly bean" colors in Europe than were in the USA.

Signal yellow was a dealer stock color for 911s in Europe, but special order in the States.

Signal orange was VERY common as a 914 color in the States. It was even seen on a few VW micro-busses of the day!

Revvv: Too late! I sold it some years ago to Bill Woeste, ... who re-painted it SILVER!

Haha you are right. I am "only" thirty. And I am in Australia so we have a lot less Porsches (or any cars really due to our much smaller population) compared to you guys.

    Re: choice of color?

yeah, well my old man had a yellow targa in '76 downunder. I'm in sydney, australia. And now i plan to shoot myself in the wallet in a very similar way... have ordered the cayman s, will be here in feb/mar. so expect to see an orange "freak of a cayman" cruisin' round old sydneytown early next year. (if all remains as planned)

    Re: choice of color?

Jayman S, you ordered it in Orange? Is that a paint to sample colour? Do you know the spec we are getting? Haven't heard from my dealer since they sent me the Cayman S booklet.

Here is a pointer so you can download the Photoshop file with a mask I used for these images so you can DIY if you have a program that will read Photoshop files. It is about 1MB.

    Re: choice of color?

    the white one looks stunning.

    Re: choice of color?

Thank you Roy. Agree that white looks very good. Price is certainly right, unless Porsche decides to make it a "Special Color" for 06.......

    Re: choice of color?

Good job Roy ad thanks for sharing the file too

    Re: choice of color?

    Yes, thanks Roy.

    The white does look good!

I'm not too fond of the "retro" colors on the Cayman....they seem to look great on the older 911s/914s but just don't do it for me on the Cayman. The orange and yellow look OK, the green is horrible.

I think I'll be sticking with Atlas, Artic, Black, or White.....now just to pick one.

    Re: choice of color?

Thanks Roy . . . that is really helpful.

    Re: choice of color?

Thanks Roy! I want white! But I am really worried about resale. What do you guys think?

Why I do like it, it definitely won't be in demand like silver, black, etc., and it probably depends on what part of the country your are in also.....hot summer type climates like Florida seem to like white cars some others don't.

    Re: choice of color?

White is fairly popular in the US (behind black and silver) and resale doesn't appear to be a problem. I read some of UK Porsche magazines, and from some of the comments it seems that white is not that popular in the UK, but I may be overstating the matter based on just a few remarks. My personal taste is that white looks good in a coupe but less so in a convertible.

    Re: choice of color?

White is definetly getting popular (in Europe) at the moment, problem how long will it last

I would buy an F430 in white, but not a Porsche...

    Re: choice of color?

White is one of the worst colour in Australia in terms of resale. All sales rep company cars are white! I have always liked white performance car. We just picked up the new Golf GTI for the wife (she will only drive hatchbacks!) and it looks sensational in white. I don't care so much about resale with the GTI as the car is only worth 1/4 of the Cayman S. But when so much more capital is at risk, I have to be more careful.

    Re: choice of color?

I wish Porsche would introduce a pearl effect white for the Cayman. That should look stunning.
