I don't believe that it has been eliminated, but perhaps it occurs less frequently now. If your dealer is willing to say this to you as a matter of fact, you should be careful, because that statement really isn't factual.
Still a great car though!

This reminds me of the pinion bearing problem on the 968. During the four years of production, Porsche never acknowledged the problem publicly or told people it had been fixed. Instead of putting customers' minds at ease -- the right thing to do -- they attempted to reduce their liability by not saying anything publicly even though they fixed some cars, both in and out of warranty.
When I sold my 968, people were constantly asking about the problem. Even though mine was one of the last built, and I had no problem, I could give them no assurance that the factory had rectified it. Stupid!

Correct RMS will be a problem forever. Until they machine the castings with great precison, the "as-is" casting where the seal is bedded will always be a problem area. Some castings just aren't as good (accurate) as others in that area and therefore it's a lottery which ones will leak.
Maybe your dealer is saying they've made improvements to the casting process, but until they MACHINE where those seals seat ($$$ to do this "right") there will be problems.

Corporations have adopted risk management strategies for dealing with latent defects. You can be certain that Porsche management crunched the numbers (or someone did it for them) to determine whether re-engineering/re-tooling M96 would be cost effective, or whether responding to problems as they arise "in the field" would be more economical. An additional factor that likely contributed to their current policy is decliing length of average ownership since the manufacturer obligation declines with subsequent owners over time. The proliferation of leases and financing plans that encourage short term ownership maximize profit and decreases long term obligations to initial (and repeat) customers. This is particularly true of the US market.

NO unmachined casting would be accurate enough to house an oil seal adequately.
Just because we read a lot of BS, it doesn't mean we have to believe it!

The block is made using the investment casting process. It comes our of the mold as a finished product, so there is no additional machining of it. Its a remarkable manufacturing

Audi, not Porsche, is the worlds leader in mass production engine block quality. They use a UV laser to "machine" engine blocks for their TDI series of motors. Their process is quicker and more precise than the Thyssens investment casting technology that Porsche uses or the traditional way of mechanically milling a rough casting into a engine block.

Its just an oil leak, but the car is fantastic. Don't let this potential problem stop you purchasing the car. just make sure its under warranty either new or used.
