Entry & Drive

I searched on this and nothing came up. The options list from, I guess, Finland, showed that the Boxster and Cayman will be available with Entry & Drive. No key, just walk up to the car and it will sense the key in your pocket and allow you to open the door. I guess the same inside, in that you just press a button that will start the car if the key is in the vicinity.

Has anyone tried this with the Cayenne? Sounds convenient, though one of the intangible Porsche quirks of putting the key in to the left will be unused.

I would be interested in any thoughts. Says 950 Euros

I have it on my Cayenne. It is quite handy as you just have to have the key somewhere in your pockets. However, you have to leave a little key-like knob in the keyhole in order for the entry & drive to work. The car senses the key and unlooks the doors automatically when you touch the doorhandle. To lock it again, you just have to touch a small area on the handle. There's no button for starting the engine. Instead, you have to turn that knob just like a regular key. The back side of this knob is, that anyone looking into the car might think that you left the key. Overall, a cool nice-to-have but definitely not a must-have.

I'm not sure I'd want this. There's something almost mythical about pulling the key out of your pocket, inserting it into the ignition and twisting it to bring the flat-6 to life. It's part of the same "low-level reptile brain" satisfaction I get with the manual shifter.

Just picture it, you walk up to a Cayman, and it asks you:
"Is that a key in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?"

I would love to have it, but do not like the Cayenne system with the little key you have to leave in. Someone could think you left the key in, and break a window to try to streal the car...
I find the key too big in my pocket!
