SL55amg vs 997s?
Is it better on the track than the SL55 with regards to handling and braking?
Has anyone driven the SL55 can comment the difference between the two?

Let's just say that when I pull up to a stoplight alongside an SL55, I just act like I'm busy playing with my radio or sport chrono or something. I wouldn't stand a chance of out accelerating this car.
I'll just wait for the 997 turbo.

The torque of the SL55 motor just completely overwhelms
any 997. Its also a much more comfortable car for a long trip.

sorry to say it will blow a 997S away....one reason its automatic so no room for error for driver....second it has much more power than a 997S... my friend raced a SL55 on highway with his 996TT and he could not pass the benz....

Not true the SL can easily keep up with a turbo, expecially when already running at highway speeds. You kick down the gas pedal and it just scoots, no drama.

Porker, becuase thats one of those GM factory claimed lap times... in the SportAuto Supertest however, the C6 with its 400HP and with the optional Z-51 sport chasis managed a 8:15 lap time... likely a couple of seconds faster than the 997 but this has standard suspensions and only 325HP. The C6's 8:15 lap was 10 seconds slower than what the -20mm sport chasis 997S and with 50HP less did in the SportAuto Supertest.

two different cars. Why buy an SL if you can have a convertible porsche (which is the case with EVERY SL). The sl's are a nice passenger car....nice to ride in *you aren't driving an SL.. you are pointing it in a direction and you ride along with it* porsche's are the same, you actually work to drive them and you are rewarded. Moreover, SL55AMG is an automatic... it isn't sporty it's just fast in a straight line (which is cool).. however, it's not as fun to drive, it's like an AMERICAN cadillac.

Here is a partial list of ring times for various cars by different drivers/test. The SL55 is a few ticks behind our beloved 997s.
So next time you see an SL55 at the light, just give them this printout
