    lowered seats?

Has anyone sat in a 996 with the lowered seat option? I am 6'3" and the leg room is tight (no tilt steereing wheel)...will lowered seats make a considerable difference?

    Re: lowered seats?

You pay $705 for 10 mm less padding in the seat bottom. Is it worth it? You probably want to delete the sunroof instead. There, you'd gain more than an inch for $0.

    Re: lowered seats?

Porsche's optional lowered seat is a 10mm thinner seat cushion. It'd be much cheaper to have that done after purchase. And possibly even done thinner as 10mm isn't much lowering.

    Re: lowered seats?

Delete sunroof?? I no way...I think I'll just deal with it, or go aftermarket, like Steve mentioned.

    Re: lowered seats?

I'm 6'2" and never had any issues with my C2 and it had a sunroof too.

    Re: lowered seats?

I have --- I'm 6'5" tall and do notice the same tightness you have.

    My thoughts:
The Lowered Seats option helps more with head room than leg room; If head room is your problem (you didn't say it was), then the other respondant was right about it being better/cheaper to go the Sunroof Delete route; Going with Electric Seats helps in both leg (just slightly) and head (a little more) room; Make sure your Steering Wheel is adjusted toward YOU as much as possible (somewhat counter-intuitive, but it helps legroom for me); The biggest help for legroom is to do the "GT3" or "Console Delete" modification --- This takes out the Front Center Console giving you tons more RIGHT leg room with the only drawback being a slight loss of storage area (Note: This won't work if you have the PCM unit and if you have heated seats, you'll need to relocate the controls for that).

    Re: Another thought

On the Boxster Board Robert from Agoura Hills (sp?) raves about his GT3 seat in his Boxster with a special "tall man" floor mount from Brey-Krause. If you're not concerned with anyone else driving your car, and like the GT3 bucket seat (very grippy but no seatback recline or tilt), this should give you plenty of head room. Not especially cheap though as seat and bracket run about $1700 I believe. But hey, what's $1700 compared to the price of the car and the enjoyment of being comfortable driving it

    Re: lowered seats?

The lowered seat option makes a difference for someone over 6.2 - you just sit a little bit lower and comfortable. Is it worth the $ 705 to you - only you can decide. I do like it in my car. Just got '03 C 4 CAB with X-51, Sport-seats lowered, etc.

    Re: lowered seats?

Sport Seats are the lowest you can get

    Re: lowered seats?

Your dealer can probably find you some lowering brackets that help a lot as well.

    Re: lowered seats?

Well, I am 6'7" and I don't have a problem with the seats, but I do have the GT3 console delete kit fitted as that gives me much more legroom. It's more a matter of style, I think - do you drive with your legs below the wheel, or slightly to the side of it?

Personally I wouldn't reduce the padding in the seat (certainly not for $700!), but you might want to investigate the idea of having the seat mounted with different brackets at a later date, as many others have suggested. It's perhaps a better and cheaper option, and you can re-fit at resale time too.

    Cheers,
    Gary D.
