BMW M3 CSL

Hi everybody,

after 6 years of Porsche 996 I'm a bit bored of its style etc. The new GT3 seems to be a fascinating car, but BMW has the M3 CSL on the way.

I tested the normal M3 2 years ago and I was pretty impressed by its power and especially by the SMG II Shift. The local BMW dealer send me the CSL information map today, and I have to say, I like the car. German "Sport Auto" mag is going to "Supertest" the CSL this month. So I will wait for their statement, but it's likely, I switch from Porsche to BMW.

What do you think of the CSL?

Let me put it like this:
if you can't get a GT3 or GT3 RS, get a M3 CSL.

However: for street driving, get a 996 Turbo.
GT3, GT3 RS and M3 CSL are justified only by their track capabilities. The M3 CSL even has some difficulties on the street: the special tires (developped by Micheling specifically for the M3 CSL and mainly track use) can give you a hard time on wet or cold streets.

A similar "problem" applies to the GT3 RS which to my knowledge is equipped with semi-slicks (PZero Corsa) too.

Last thing: the M3 CSL 250 kph speed limit sucks. You get a raise to 280 kph only if you have a national or international race license (ONS/FIA).

Well ...
I'm not sure if it's that easy. As I understand all the M3 CSLs they intend to build are already sold ...

there are 29 CSL currently on offer at mobile.de, some slightly below MSRP.

do you know how many units they are going to build?

I'm not 100% sure but I recall something around 2000 units.

this is totally moronic!! they're probably going to send a BMW guy then who keeps the car under surveillance and reactivates the speed limit if the owner is borrowing or selling his car to someone WITHOUT a race driver's license
