Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

    Leawood911:

I think you know the answer. Go to that tuner and get the original software installed. I doubt the dealer will complain about any warranty issue if you are happy with the sound again. Obviously it can't be Audi policy but they would be idiots to complain or make a case of it. Look at it this way. If you fight them in court to fix your car you will lose (as you pointed out the judge will not be happy).  If you have a warranty issue as a result that would be a totally different court fight they would rather avoid. Likely hood of it happening is close to nill. So get your sound back. Screw the expensive exhaust option or warranty threats.  This is the same attitude they took with all their wealthy R8 customers.

Cleared that with that tuner today, he has the original and unmodified software for my car but I am still waiting for Audi to   react to the latest "escalation" in the chain of command. Smiley

R8 e-tron is the R8 I'd be interested in. I have a feeling though it won't be that quick.

Interesting offer for a new car but the question is what options this car has? Sport exhaust, Dynamic Steering, Magnetic Ride and sport seats (instead of the too thin sport shells) are must have options, Laserlight (Matrix) is not a must but a nice thing to have. Same goes to the carbon package which adds a certain "aha" effect to it.

There are many nice offers available right now for used R8 in Germany but careful, most used cars are Audi 24 Hours Experience cars and personally, I wouldn't get one, despite the low mileage. Smiley

The car is brand new and the lease offer is about 0,85-0,9% so you can configure as you like.

Eh, not sure that it's that great of a deal. 72K Euro after 3 years? Think you'd do better owning it outright with the freedom to sell at any given time.

Owning would only be beneficial in this example if you get a price of more than 148.000 € after 3 years, given the MSRP incl. options is 220.000, - €. I would highly doubt this.

I actually got mine for 172k (as far as I remember Smiley), so getting 148k for it after three years would be highly unlikely.

I have a four year lease and I plan to buy the car for under 90k Smiley after the four years, unless I decide to go for the 960 (which should be available around 2020)... Smiley

I will...never loved a car that much like this one. Smiley

Only if Audi puts a R8 GT on the market (similar to Huracan Performante), I could get weak and I already have an agreement with my dealer how to handle this if I want to switch but right now, I plan to keep the R8 for four years...until the 960 shows up (this was actually the "plan" behind the four years lease). After I know how the 960 will be, I will decide if I go for it...or if I buy the R8.

I have driven over 7000 km in my R8...in only four months and this is a weekend car, not a daily driver.

Amazing fun, never have been that attached to or attracted by a car and I have driven many different cars.

The R8 just tickles all my senses, it is difficult to explain but I do not get bored with it. Smiley

You can write off 100% of the cost of any leased car in Germany? There is no cap?

Pretty much yes but it depends on how much you use the car for the business and what kind of car and business this is.

It is a bit difficult to write off a R8 completely if you work in my business but I can imagine it is possible if you work in the car business, depending on what you do and what you need the car for.

We discussed this whole deduction thing in a separate thread a long time ago...

Aventador is impossible...unless I win the lottery or my Apple stock makes an unexpected jump...by 50%. Smiley Also, Germany is not a place for an Aventador, at least not where I live, I explained that often. Also, the current Aventador gearbox is actually something I really don't like on this car. Drive one and you'll understand.

R8 GT (equal to Huracan Performante)? Maybe. Since I do not track my cars often (anymore), I need a good road car. If the R8 GT only has 30 hp more and 50 kg less weight and straight line performance is basically the same as on my R8, I won't get it. If the R8 GT does 0-200 kph a second faster and 0-300 kph 3-4 seconds faster, I'm in if the price is right.

Would love to get the Huracan Performante but this car will be really expensive and hardcore (as far as I heard). Also, similar to the Aventador...my social environment...not really a good idea to get a Huracan.

So I'm afraid I am going to stick to my R8 for the whole four years, this was the plan from the start, to have a car until the 960 arrives. Don't forget that this could be also the time the R8 successor arrives or at least I will know how it looks like, so I can make a decision.

Right now, there are not many cars on the market I am interested in (675LT, Aventador SV...both out of my financial league). The 991 GT2 RS is tempting, from various points of view but I think I got addicted to that V10 engine and it will be difficult to switch to something else. This includes the 960.

Like I said before, I have an agreement with my dealer if the R8 GT shows up but to be honest, I cannot see myself part ways with my R8, I just love this car too much. It is everything I was always looking in a car. Only thing I don't like is that it isn't a Lamborghini  but I also know that I cannot "afford" having one where I live. I have no issues with my R8 being "only" an Audi but I just like the Huracan design a tiny bit better.

Agreed. I sat in and started a Huracan in Chicago but I would not want to be seen in it actually driving it. Way too 'look at me'.  Whoopsy can pull this off but not me.

Same here, this is why I drive the R8.

Btw: My McLaren neighbor just drove by my house and he drove a Huracan. Seems that he made his decision (he was torn between the Huracan and R8) but I didn't pay attention to his license plate, so maybe it was just a test car.
