    Porsche Boxster vs. Nissan 350Z

    I use to write in a spanish forum and someone has started a thread because he doesn't know what car he could buy a F/E Nissan 350Z or a standar Boxster.

    What do you think about this comparison?

    Z350 is a good car but the Boxster is far better. I would take the Boxster without hesitation.

    I never owned a Z but have test driven a friend's coupe in 2003. The additional power is ok in a straight line but taking the car through a few spirited curves didn't inspire confidence. It felt a bit uncontrolled and jumpy

    I'm not spoiled for sight, having driven roadsters for years, but the Z350's rear window topped them all. It's so flat, my sight was extremely limited. The stereo was subpar as well (had the best option available in 03, not sure what exactly it was) but in a Boxster, you also need the Bose or else your ears get treated equally bad.

    On the plus side, the NAV system seemed better than the Porsche's (better display).

    I've never driven a standard Boxster. Mine is an S but I would reckon the actual handling doesn't differ much. If it was my choice, I'd take the Boxster even though it lacks a few horses.

    My best friend has the Z. He is spending a lot of money now, two years after the purchase, to upgrade the brakes, etc. He thought he was saving money, but in the end he will have spent as much as if he had bought a top of the line Boxster. The Z cuts too many corners in quality in comparison to the Boxster. Brakes, for example, should be just as important as engine power, but Nissan doesn't see it that way. The Boxster is a better vehicle than the Z, particularly the 987 and presumably the Cayman IMHO.

    The 350Z comes in a "Track" version that provides Brembo brakes (like the Boxster) for a small charge. Just because your friend bought the wrong version doesn't mean Nissan doesn't believe in brakes...

    I have owned both.The Z is tempting because of features, however the Z is like using a hatchet for surgery..the boxster is a fine scalpel. The shifting alone is worth the price of the porsche.

    I've driven both, and please, no comparison.

    did you know that nissan make cars like skyline gtr, silvia gtr, which both are considered to be among the most desirables cars in the world...

    Great that they make cars like that, but I'll take a Carrera GT, my 911 Turbo, and even a Boxster S (the most recent Porsche I ordered) over anything Nissan, in fact, over anything from a Japanese car manufacturer (including the NSX), and those fast but ugly rice-rocket tuner cars.

    So although they may be desirable to others, they sure as hell aren't desirable to me - I will never be caught in any of these "desirable" cars in Midtown Manhattan I'll tell you that much.

    Define THE WORLD. I do not know anyone who desires a skyline that much!...not even sold here...lol...get your info too...

    A relative of mine has the 350Z anniversary (300hp), with brembos( its an automatic with manual type shifter). Maybe it would be better with a manual transmission. I just don't like the feel. Road/steering feel sucks. It handles ok, but it doesn't inspire confidence. 300hp but heavy. Check out the Road and Track article for best sports car and see how the 350Z Anv. did on the track. Not good at all. Porsche has superior road/steering feel and handling. Thats why you pay more for a Porsche, along with other things. If you can afford the Boxster, get it.

    I have read that some units of the 350Z in the USA and Europe (at least in Spain) was having stability problems. Have heard anything about that?

    in my location Vancouver here

    i see many 350Z with street boys driving in them who think they are cool..

    beside that i have seen many news of fatal accident of from that car...safety is another important issue to put in mind...
