    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

Linking the Porsche newsroom Mission X website: https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/2023/products/porsche-mission-x-hypercar-concept-32711.html. Whilst this is a hypercar to succeed the 918, one wonders how many of the design language carries over to the Boxster and Cayman replacements.  Also notice that the architecture is 900V instead of 800V found in the Taycan.  Over the past few weeks, Porsche and Audi press releases are listing the new PPE platform as 900V instead of 800V.

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

I am in Stuttgart right now, and they presented the car to us before everyone else inside the Museum.

They aren’t talking numbers yet, but they are targeting charging speed twice as fast as the Taycan, and the Taycan was already the fastest charging car.

After the car showing we were seated on the grandstand to watch the 75th Anniversary show.

It’s 1 am already and they are flying us to Le Mans tomorrow at 10. Will find time to post pics and vids.

Ah, I also got proof that the CGT is the unloved child of Porsche Smiley

In photos so far it seems over cab forward. The fore-aft balance seems a bit wonky. Some other views I really enjoy.

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

Surprised that the first car shown during the streaming of the event was an early Boxster.

    Enjoy the good times mate!
In the press release, I read twice something about ".. the Mission X, should it go into production"... And also references to it being a concept car. Will this for sure be the successor of the 918, or will it stay a concept car only?

And if it will go into series production... would you be interested in it? Smiley

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

Acceleration from power to weight ratio of 1:1, check. Top speed from 1500cv EV engine, check. Low center of gravity from low central battery, check. Instant torque from electric engine, check. High aerodynamic downforce, check...The lap time from that thing on the Nurburgring is going to be absolutely ridiculous...

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

Extremely quick but emotionally devoid without sound.  Notice how exhaust systems are tuned on sports car to function more like brass instruments of an orchestra.  That’s intentional and part of the character.

Great styling...check? It seems a bit busy, and the proportions read a bit off on pictures. But I have a feeling it's much more cohesive in person.

How much Rimac under the skin??

How much Rimac does Porsche own?  In 2021, at the time of the Bugatti deal, Porsche owned 24%.  However, Porsche has increased its stake with at least $500+ million capital infusion.  Therefore, Rimac is probably more Porsche than Rimac.

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

"The Mission X’s development will see Porsche’s engineering team work closely with Rimac Automobili – in which it took a 45 percent stake in 2022 – not only on the car’s chassis design but also its 900-volt battery and motor technology and architecture too. The Mission X is not a further evolution of the Rimac Nevera hypercar but will be an all-new machine."

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

You only need to compare the weight of the two (Mission X is 1,800 pounds lighter) to know it is not a rebadged Nevara…

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

During the introduction, Porsche only reference the 959 and the 918, they left out the CGT. The 918 was driven out by Walter Rohrl and the 959 by Hans Stuck.

Zero mention or attention given to the CGT.

The description given is that both the 959 and 918 played an important role in Porsche cars and contribute greatly to Porsche’s other cars.

Thus is the same sentiment I have had since basically forever and the factory agreed with me.

I can see what they mean, the 959 and 918 where technologically very advanced for the time, s showcase for Porsche, the CGT was just a normal supercar, great engine with carbon tub, but it had nothing special going on.

Which is exactly what makes it great imo. It's analogue, its sole purpose is to be a driving machine, not to push forward some kind of technological or ecological agenda. CGT. <3

Wait a minute.  On the livestream of the event, Hans Stuck and Walter Rohrl gave a countdown of the greatest Porsche motorcars.  If one recalls correctly, they listed the CGT as No. 2 on that list.

I agree, that was the beauty of the CGT, but I'm just pointing out it's a different type of car than the other two, the CGT didn't play as big a role for Porsche and it's innovative engineering. I can see how for Porsche engineers don't hold the CGT as highly as the 959 or 918.

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

The car will be quite a few years away from production.

The battery tech they planned, that can be recharged in half the time it takes for the Taycan, will be a 'semi-dry' cell or even 'fully dry' cells. It's not available yet, will be at least a couple years away optimistically.

Only at that time they can start doing the prototypes and testing, which will be say 2-3 years.

At the fastest possible time, the car is 4-5 years away.

Opinions are divided among us 918 owners. Some think it's an awesome car, but others are meh. I mean it looks fantastic and the promised performance is out of this world, but at the end of the day it's an electric car so not really useful for most.

    Re: Porsche Mission X Hypercar

So the Mission X is as complete as Porsche’s current 963.  The real crucible of acceptance will be the EV replacements for the Boxster and Cayman.  If the initial acceptance isn’t great, I would be surprised if Porsche wouldn’t then ditch the Mission X for something more akin to an update variant of the 918.

From this angle there's a hint of Ferrari SP3 in it. A comparison many Porsche fans would specially loather after this past weekend Smiley

    They can’t.

It would not be possible for them to back track anymore. They are stuck doing the EV path no matter what.
