James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

A great article, I could not have said it better myself.
Which I guess is why he has this job and not me :

    James Allen's verdict

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

    [Outtake from the article:]

"The FIA has indicated that the teams and Michelin should offer financial compensation to the US fans. If they do not do that, then fines and a deduction of constructors' championship points looks likely.

It will virtually hand the constructors' championship to Ferrari, penalising McLaren, Renault and Toyota in particular.

With Mosley already committed to a single tyre supplier in the future, Michelin know that after this, they are finished in F1.

They have no defence against a disrepute charge and they may choose to invite the FIA to heap all of the punishment on themselves, rather than the teams.

If Michelin withdraw from F1 at the end of this season, it will put everyone on Bridgestones for 2006 and guess which team would have a head start in that relationship?"

Talk about carrying more weed to my already substantial Ferrari-bashing bonfire. Whoohoo.

    Great article indeed.
At the end of the day; who knows what's the truth or facts in this mess?

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

Dr. Phil, you are much too kind to Ferrari. They have an established record of sham racing in the US at Indy, they didnt need to create this mess, because the other teams and Michelin were fully capable of digging their own sewer holes.

The other teams may be just as nasty if you consider James Allen's quotes to be true:

"A combination of higher tyre pressures and regular tyre changes would have got the Michelin cars through the race.

Second, the teams play a role in deciding, along with Michelin, which tyres to bring to races and it seems that some of them were being very aggressive in their choice. Michelin forgot to give themselves a safety net.

The problem was made worse by some teams running tyre pressures below the Michelin recommendation.

They did that because a floppier tyre will have more rubber in contact with the ground and that means more grip in the twisty infield section of the track where the most time is to be gained.

But the sidewall of the tyre then gets overloaded at high speeds on the banking. Hence Ralf Schumacher's crash on Friday"

It is so laughable that the vaunted F1 cars cant make it around Indy without controversy or disaster.

Maybe NASCAR needs to run at the 'ring to educate y'all!

We gottem plenty of heap big monster trucks that can lap Nardo or Spa no problemo

Hell, our drivers even know how to run at 200 without hittin a wall!

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

Hehehe...yeah, well. F1 has certainly reached a point where at least considering watching ugly sedans go round and round hoping something exciting (like an accident - hopefully a spectacular and splatter-filled one) happens, seems like a pretty good alternative.

The NASCAR and Indy cars are used to the banking tarmac, mainly because they only drive on banking tarmac and bever drive the other way.
The stress on that type of cars from that type of racing is totally different than that on the F1 cars.

Michelin got caught with their hair in the mailbox (sorry, Danish expression I find useful here ), but more so politically than technically from what I deduct from the article.
Seems strong forces wanted Michelin to fail...and voila, they did.
I guess it's back to the drawing board for the Michelin technicians. Yikes.

F1 is done in the US...and perhaps Europe too.
I just looked at the scoreboard. What a joke. Ferrari is now second overall, and Schumi third.
I say, let them have the championship and a bowl of fettuchine.
Pasta, Italian cars and Marlboros. Isnt it all pretty passé anyways?

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

"Michelin got caught with their hair in the mailbox"

How do you say that in Danish?

Really the whole F1 thing as you put it so well...as so much pasta, nationalism and marlboros is corny and deceitful.

"Constructors Championship" LOL. Who isnt running a F1 car without a chassis developed in Jolly Olde England?? I doubt if Ferrari, Honda, Toyota, et all, could build in house a complete competitive F1 car fron scratch.

Once again Bubba, I must pour icewater on your head about NASCAR.

In the NASCAR series, most races are 200mph for 2 hrs or more, but THEY do also race at INFINEON, wich is a very good road course used for ALMS (Audi R8's etc..)The cars actually do pretty well, in fact its the
favourite race of the year for most NASCAR drivers.

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

come on ! we all know nascar always have loads of accident!

is a totally differen racing game .

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

Yeah, they have loads of accidents, but not from shoddy tires!

yes, You go 200mph for 2 hours steady in a pack of thirty cars often less than 100mm apart and see how many fenders you touch!

But, there has NEVER been a SHAM race due to drivers turning chicken because their tires were n0t supposedly
    good enough.

Im not even a nascar fan, but compared to F1, at least
NASCAR management, teams and drivers KNOW how to run a racing series competently!!!!

Even in MEXICO, they can properly manage a race that has more entrants, more danger and more risks involved!!!!!!

"Michelin blev fanget med haret i postkassen".
    Pretty simple, innit?

I'll admit to one thing: Americans are exceptional at making even the lamest sport entertaining. I'm pretty sure I'd have a blast watching NASCAR...amidst Bubba from the hillies and Billy-Ray Sixpack and his corndog in one hand and his greased up mama in the other.
    Yeeehaw! Raaaaaaawhiiiiiide!!!!
"Yup, dem dere cars suuuure do go fay-ust a-rayond dat perdy round sir-kit.
Amma gonnaa chack out dat dere homeepage number you up anna gave me. Arhl be back faster than a fox will chew his way thru a henha-ose".

do u prefer dtm or nascer dr. phil?

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

    I checked the homepage.
For some tech reason I cant see the middle section, and hence no photos of the track etc. I did, however, see a videoclip of the Indy Argent..something class or race. Looks like a mix of a Schwarzenegger movie and Baywatch.
"Yeeees, it's the indy series. We didn't invent the wheel (duh!), we just put 600 horses behind it. Look at all those drivers getting seriously injured in these clips. Now, THAT's entertainment! And if you dont get enough by watching speed and blood, okay...we'll throw in a pair of titties and some semi-famous muscle dude on a jetski...Hoo-harh!"

All that's missing is a Fear Factor-competition where people have to run across the track during the race and pick up 100-dollar bills

    http://www.infineonraceway.com/video/ir_irl_2005.wmv

Jim, I'm sorry man. I just think it's hard to take this stuff seriously.
I seriously think you need to be american to see past the (IMO) bad taste and spot any kind of sport behind this tack-o-rama raceform.
And I dont mean this as "americans have no taste", I simply think you need an american cultural background to appreciate this.

    DTM, anytime!

Re: James Allen's verdict on US GP fiasco and fall-out

We Need EURSCAR, with 750's and S65's battling out against
7 litre Turbo Chrysler Hemis at the Ring and at Nardo.

    Now, THAT's entertainment!
All we need now is to get another relative of Dr. Phil's to host the show.
He probably has some unknown brother or exwife somewhere.

    Hoo-haaar!

Have you ever watched the movie Deathrace 2000 with Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine?
