2022 BMW M5 CS
I picked the CS up today and immediately embarked on a 700km trip with it. It was the first time I saw the car in daylight, and I really feared the color would be too bright, in combination with that matte finish and bronze accents. Turns out it's ok, it's a really dark shade of green, and remains so even in sunlight. It's hardly a wallflower, but it is growing on me.
As the car is brand new, I'm running it in for the next 2000Km, so cannot comment much on engine/power. But what is immediately apparent is a sense of quality of engineering. This car feels so properly sorted, shot through with quality and talent throughout, it's incredible. It's a popular analogy with journalists, but it honestly feels like a GT3 sedan. If Porsche would engineer a Motorsport 4-door, this is how I imagine it would feel. The damping is of such quality, such control, it really is impressive. The transformation between driving modes is also very impressive, it can go from comfortable to really quite hardcore at the push of a button. Waw..
As luck would have it Waze made me drive all the way through the Black Forest, which has some of the best roads you could possibly wish for. Brilliant way to get to know the car.
The rest of the route was mostly autobahn in torrential rain, and that role as well it plays to perfection. It's silent, it's comfy, and even on the P Zero Corsa's it behaves nicely. The multimedia for me is a lot more pleasant than Mercedes', feels a bit old school perhaps but it works (CarPlay without cable, thank you BMW). The bucket seats are OK, if a bit irritating to have these huge bolsters to get over, once in, all good.
In short, blown away with the quality. Yes it comes at a huge cost for a BMW 5er, but it feels more like a 4-door supercar than it does a normal sedan. The journo BMW CS-hype is justified. Coming home late, my son waited up in his pyjama's to see the car.
Don't mind the location of the license plate, they didn't want to drill holes in the bumper so still have to put it in place.
