    At LeMans the GT3's finished ahead of many LMP2s and GT1s, wanna bet this one is going to kick ass?

    NEW V8, 480hp, about 800kgs

    I'm convinced there's something to this and I'd love someone who knows more about these cars to chime in. It seems all the LMP2 cars have dual roll hoops, but the LMP1 cars have a single hoop. Some of the look must be governed by the rules, my question is, how much?

    dude only 480 hp the aer and judd engines are easily pushing 520 hp, but I am sure in every other aspect the porsche race car is way better

    What is the point of this class of racer?

    Its slower than a open wheeled Indy or F1 car
    It bears no resemblance to a production car
    They dont have much HP for all the cost

    Someone educate me please!!

    They do look kinda weird now, but this car is from the same line of cars as the 917, 935, 956, 962, and GT1. I don't know about how the rules changed across those race cars to influence design, but only the 935 and GT1 resembled street cars. Yet they all contributed to Porsche's expertise in the field of racecars and brought technology and experience to the marque. To me they are in the category of all out race car and represent the cutting edge in kinda the way that an F1 car does. However, they are much more relevant to the production cars that we drive. (for instance the suspension on a CGT seems lifted from a prototype sports racer, and it is much different from an F1 car, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't F1 suspensions torsion bar set ups and although Porsche had torsion bar street cars, that technology is unlikely to come back to the street, similarly it seems many F1 technologies really can't be transferred to the street).

    I do feel that the modified version of this engine will find its way into the future mid engine sports car that Porsche will make

    I can understand the R and D benefits.

    The 1,653 lbs. or 750 kgs weight rule is encouraging. If they leverage that technology to build a 2400lb or less under 100K street car that would be nice.

    Don't the top LMP2 engines today produce around 530HP?

    Safe to say the 480HP quote is under rated. Having a 10K redline should mean well over 500HP in race trim. Didn't porsche rate the GT1s at 550HP?

    Yes they did. And when Klaus Byzek took the air restrictors off his three cars he said it was quite easy to got well over 900bhp out of them. More air allows more fuel which means WAY more power. Remember these things have to breath throught air restricotrs that are often little bigger than the diameter of a quarter...
