The 480 HP should be accurate but we heard around 510 HP for a possible Turbo S and/or GT2.
A Turbo Cab is expected around 6-12 months after Turbo Coupe introduction, a Turbo S should be available starting with MY 2009 (summer 2008, maybe slightly earlier).
Don't expect a Turbo S too soon if 997 Turbo sales go well.
A big mystery still remains with the rumored 997 GT2.

Thanks RC,
510HP still sounds like a good number. But summer 2008 as a MY2009 for the TS? Arghhhh!
Maybe that 996TSCab 2005 all black (with carbon fiber package) will be needed more than ever. . . .

As far as we heard, the 997 Turbo engine is based on the "old" design, it actually is a refined version of the GT2 MkII engine which delivers 483 HP.
Only the capacity will be raised to 3.8 l.

Regarding the 997 GT3: it would be a bad decision if Porsche would choose the 997 Carrera S M97 engine for the GT3. But it can't be excluded. Somebody who saw a 997 GT3 from a closer distance, said that the car had PSM and the Chrono Sport package (yes, it was a GT3).
So maybe Porsche wanted to save money and squeezed 400-408 HP out of the M97 engine. No problem to do that, the powerkit engine already delivers 381 HP.
BUT (regarding the 3.8 l engine for the GT3): rumours have it that the new 997 Turbo will get a 3.8 l engine too, so maybe there is still some hope regarding a REAL dry sump lubrification system on the GT3.

Awesome Stradale,
It looks like the same combo. my local dealer has. I'll check the Porsche dealer's website to see if the options list is similar (I'll need heated seats for the winter ). I want to see how low I can get my local dealer to go down from MSRP. BTW, what's your opinion re. carbon fiber? I'm going over to my dealer tomorrow evening for a peek.

The deviated stitching is in Silver. Doors & Seats. IMO it looks awesome. I really like the carbon fiber. I'm a big fan of CF. My CS is drapped in the stuff. It has the standard exhaust tips which I like much better on the TT because they fit to the bottom of the bumper better then the fake double tube chrome tips. It also has IMO THE BEST wheels going. The painted GT Silver wheels. You can't really tell from the pick but they are darker then the regular Turbo wheel. Between the darker wheel and the CCM's gives the car a mean, custom look.
They came off $10k on the phone before any type of negotiation. My guess is there would be only a thousand or two max. from there. I almost bought the car, if money was no issue and I didn't already have a Black 996TT I might have. I bought a 997 S cab. My next Porsche is going to be the 997 TT Cab. (I gave my deposit in March) New 997 cab's will definately depreciate less in a years time then new 996 cab's. Turbo or not.
I saw you mentioned using the Turbo in the snow. When I bought my 996 TT I thought it would be great because I could use the 4-wheel drive in the winter too. I never took the car out when there was any risk of snow. Funny way how your thinking about using the car in the snow changes once you have the beauty.
If you decide to go with the S- good luck with the car. It's a great machine.

2 new pieces of info on the 997 TT:
the engine will definitely be a 3.8.
the 997TT might be the first petrol car in the world with VGT (variable geometry turbocharger). this means more torque over a broader range and higher power output!
cheers

I guess the Nm increase will be at least about 20%, so instead of 560 we will be at 650-700, close to the AMG kompressors (which by the way need up to 60 hp just to feed themselves, so they are totally inefficient!).
the TT will be a bombshell performancewise. it will tear the tarmac - F430 brace yourself!!
cheers
ps: the variable vanes tech is a proven tech with many very succesful applications on turbodiesels here in europe!
