Re: Front hood open's after polishing

Thats a Le Mans icon, they can't! maybe they would place a "engine start" button there instead

i've got the engine start buttons on the noble, SL and the Touareg the start button is so much more fun than turning a key!

    LOL

does it come in soft leather.. or supple leather

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

...if your in LA jfraser, I doubt we have the same dealer as I live way North of there. Glad you have a fix though.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

    Flashman
I thought your SM was referring to a vehicle within the service network, not at their dealership......A few factory engineers from Porsche and Delphi flew from Germany to look at my car...and a number of SM's were kept informed of the results, hence the reason why I thought your reference was to my vehicle

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

Hmmmm... I've waxed my headlamps twice now (along with the rest of the car), and I've experienced no mysterious hood unlatching. I'll consider myself fortunate I suppose.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

And also, just drying the headlights would create static electricity. I wonder if this phenomenon is more attributable to high-speed buffers and orbital buffers?? I do all of my work by hand.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

I've got 3M film on the headlights and not an issue yet either.

I washed the car this weekend and noticed that the front latch was open after drying the car.....

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

I'm sorry to say it, but I think my car likes me. When you guys rub your cars, they gag and pop their deck in protest.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

SM said the vehicle (I mentioned earlier) was one that my dealership had worked on where they replaced every piece of hardware involved and made no difference. Very interested in what they did to resolve the issue though.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

that is quite silly, DONT POLISH YOUR HEAD LIGHTS!!!!

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

    Good point that may actually help, I have tried turning the ignition key on if I plan to wax the front part of the car or headlights and so far so good (2 months and no system fault messages). I wouldn't leave anything on inside for obvious reasons (radio, lights, ac, etc) and make it quick.....not the best thing for your battery or car for that matter. I am guessing that the culprit must have something to do with static electricity upsetting the computer module in 'sleep mode" and turning the ignition on is like booting up a computer from "sleep" Replacing the front latch + solinoid +module didn't work for me so this is just my own trial and error stuff . On the other hand it could be hardware related but static electricity is still the culprit (my guess). This issue seems to affect US bound cars mostly, so do any non-US cars have this fault message?? If so let us know if your car is equipped with the emergency hatch release in the front trunk (its a neon yellow handle) because that may be the only difference so I'm curious. If its only a US problem it points to the emergency hatch release and static electricity somehow disturbing communication. For my situation the fault message only happened when I waxed the area involving the front lights or very near to it (the car wash before hand could just be coincidendal)? Static electricity is more suspect here and water may not be the culprit (at least thats how I feel because I've been in heavy downpours and have had no problems). Dealer has no idea how to fix it and neither do I?: : :n ;

The car you refer to was mine....As a courtesy to Porsche, I don't want to post too much info other than to say that the info silverrules posted is correct and the cause of the SF/latch issue is indeed due to static discharge. Also, Porsche have solved the System Fault/hood latch, although it isn't readily available yet(I've had it installed in my car for about a month....and have polished the living cr@p out of the lights/car...absolutely NO PROBLEMS). Despite what we may think, Porsche take fixing these sorts of problems very seriously....I can't begin to tell you how responsive they've been (once the cause was identified). Extraordinary customer service

To sum up, it's not washing that trips the latch/SF, it's polishing (particularly headlights)....Don't put Zaino or Plexus etc. on the headlights (it doesn't matter if the product is anti static, the cloth you use isn't!!). If you need to clean the headlights...just make sure the cloth is slightly damp and gently wipe.

There is a fix. You have to insist that your dealer talk to PCNA's technical people. They are aware of the fix. There is a limited supply of the modified control modules, but you should get one, if not immediately, eventually. Get on their list.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

Bill, My dealer said the same thing. They know exactly what is causing this but dont have the updated module just yet. We need to be patient but keep calling them.

Re: Front hood open's after polishing

Thanks for keeping me updated Bill, will call dealer and get on that list. Cheers.
