    Cayenne Turbo powerkit - little update

    After driving around with the retrofitted powerkit today, I can offer you a little bit more information.

    1. today I saw 283 kph (176 mph) on the speedo. And there was a little bit "room" left for more
    2. fuel consumption when driving at full speed exceeded 44 litres/100 km. Never saw such a high fuel consumption on the Cayenne Turbo, my record was around 39 litres/100 km. That would be 11.6 US gallons/100 km or to translate it into miles per gallon: 5.3 mls per gallon if I'm right with my calculation. Ouch. The attached picture shows only slightly over 42 litres because as soon as I slowed down, the fuel consumption dropped.
    I suppose Porsche's claim that the fuel consumption remains unchanged with the powerkit isn't quite true. It may stay unchanged if driven in the speed range where manufacturers do their fuel consumption claims for the brochures but at full speed, the fuel consumption has increased by at least 4 litres/100 km or by slighly more.
    3. the powerkit testcar I drove had no servotronic on board, this is why my car feels completely different. The steering feels very light but is still very precise and the minor understeer has vanished completely. Very neutral handling behaviour.

    I wasn't able to take a picture when the boost pressure is fully at max because it stays there only for a few seconds. But look at this picture, over 0.8 bar boost at 90 kph. I think you get the picture...

    wow, that means your car will top out at somewhere around 290-300 kph RC?! almost as quick as the sportech world record cayenne!!

    2. this is my family car, cleaning it too often would be senseless. The kids are making a mess all the time, I usually let my wife clean the Cayenne.

    I think seeing 290 kph on the speedo should be possible, this would mean around "REAL" 275 kph. I'm afraid that over 260 kph, the speed increases only slowly due to bad aerodynamics. I don't think I ever have the chance to see 290 on the speedo but the 283 today were nice too.

    I don't think any of us could say "WOW" enough times to do this justice. I'm sure there are many on this side of the pond who, like me, are drooling at the concept of having a place to drive with the (relatively) safe possibility of getting a 996TT up to those speeds, much less a CTT. Thanks for helping us live vicariously. Keep the reports coming!

    On fuel consumption, the Cayenne Turbos I saw at Porsche's Driver Education event in Birmingham were averaging about 5 mpg. I did see one at 4 mpg, the lowest I saw.

    Guess I have to make way with my Boxster S 285kph max on the speedo
