TPMS is available for MY 2006. It probably could be retrofitted but only at enormous expense. New wheels, sensors in wheelwells, new wiring harness, the "brains" for the system, the labor to install all of that and reprogram your existing electronics to accept the new input, the cost would be prohibitive.
There are aftermarket TPMS systems available. I have seen something called "Smart Tire", made by Motorola I think, and I am sure there are others.
Other changes include the improved PCM 2.1 that will now read MP3's and has improved navigational functionality. I don't see many other changes. You can look at the Porsche Finland website (link) and see the price list for all models and their options. For some reason this Porsche website always has option and pricing information available months before it's available anywhere else.

I would have loved to have TPMS on both cars, my 997 CS and my wife's Boxster S. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it, my car was No.200 ever produced (march 2004) and my wife's car already has the MY 2006 enhancements but it wasn't possible to get the TPMS from the factory.
Retrofit? I'll look into it as soon as I have more time.
I would be interested too since I soon need new tires for my 997 Carrera S.

I don't think it'd be as complicated as that, but it might be non-trivial agreed. Modern cars have communications buses that are shared by lots of different systems, don't they? I don't think you have a 'wire for everything' these days. I would guess that Porsche planned this into the design of the electrical system for the original launch, but couldn't get it working to the level of reliability that they needed in time. (I'm reading between the lines here). In my mind, it's only a case of getting the signals from four sensors to the ECU (using a common 'sensor' bus?), then putting the code into the display console to show pressures and alerts.
Perhaps RC could grill some engineers at Porsche HQ as to the technical issues behind TPMS?

As it is now mandatory in US for all 2006 cars & as I understand should have been 2005 I imagine most of the technology is in 2005 built cars except for sensors in wheels. These are either on the rim or as Valve senders with inbuilt antenna which is picked up by receiver box & displayed on computer with alerts/alarms.Carlos From Spain on 997 board has it in his new delivered car.

This regulation is to be phased in gradually starting September 2005. In the first year a manufacturer only needs to have 50% of it's vehicles so equipped. Full compliance is not required until 2008, IIRC.

Yes, pols, I ordered mine with TMPS on the 997S and works flawlessly, it shows you the exact tire pressure of each tire in real time. I HIGHLY recomend it.
But why is it not available? I don't understand, is it a luck thing like the PSE were some orders are accepted and others aren't?
I believe member gnil got it accepted on its 997C4S order he just placed.
