    Ferrari/Maserati news

A little birdie just told me two interesting things:

Ferrari is DEFINETLY developing a car below the F430.
Project will share the same 4.2l V8 with 400 hp from Maserati and is called "California" (well, we already knew that ). This project has been forced by Ferrari, since the breakup Ferrari - Maserati. The California will be headed especially against the Aston Martin Vantage and will cost less than 150.000 USD.

Second news is that Maserati has stopped the new Spyder/GT development and is now planning to build a new car on the Alfa Romeo Brera platform. So car should be delayed.

Please don't ask me, where I got this information from, I won't tell.

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

    Sweet info!
    Thanks

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

A lower priced model might require increased sales volume,
and if Italy returns to the Lira perhaps it would be priced below the Aston.

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

    Interesting info Rossi .

I heard that Maserati is developing a car that will be in Boxster S segment to compete with Boxster line, is this true?

Hmm, don't know, Ron, but I could check that next week...

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

    Interesting, thanks a lot!

    Yes it's true my man,
How can you not trust your amazing source!!!

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

I totally forgot the source, I thought I read it somewhere. Scotch is affecting my brain .

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Any word on the release of the 430 CS? Do you think thet slot the California in before the 430CS? I was thinking the 600 Imola would be at Frankfurt in Sept. then the 430 CS at geneve in March but this might change that. Any thoughts?

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Isn't the Brera FWD? That would be a terrible mistake for Maser!

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Last thing I heard concerning the Maranello successor was that it will be presented in Geneva.

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

The new Dino il not have a V8 but V6 its already being developed,it will have around 3.6cc and around 380ps and most probably it will include the UNIAIR(valve control)suposed to be out after 2007, this engine in diferent versions will be used by Maserati and by Alfa Romeo, its said that this v6 from Ferrari its going to be the base for a new family of V6 for the Alfa romeo .

where did you get this info from rosso? but thanks though!

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Also heard a rumor that the new Dino/California will not have F1 sequential transmission, to keep the exclusivity of the more expensive models and to keep the price down..

A mid engine V6 with 380hp and a 6 speed manual sounds like a car I might buy...

I think the price will need to come down to $100-120k, that way they can sell 4-5000 per anum and also cut right into 911 sales.

    Porsche should be very worried!

As long as Ferrari's dealer practices remain unaltered (think LONG waiting lists and significant markupus over MSRP), I don't think Porsche has anything to worry about.

The waiting list isn't going to be that long...at least, not as long as the F430. It simple economics, the more cars Ferrari makes, the less demand there will be.

So, unless the $100k sports car market continues to grow, which I doubt BTW, this car will eat the 911's lunch!

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

please remember, that porsches come with a motor plan and 5 year warranty(at over here they do), the maintainence of a ferrari is still very expensive, although ferrari's also come with a warranty, it's not nearly as long as porsche's..

Actually the opposite in the UK - porsche warranty 2 yrs, Ferrari 3yrs! Hourly rates for servicing about the same - although parts, and the access to the engines and frequency of belt replacements etc. bump the costs for Ferrari up.

All good news above, suddenly the speculative deposit I placed a while back on this car doesn't look too silly.... the way the price of the AM V8 has gone though it won't have to e too 'cheap' to compete at this price point....

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

wow only 2 years? even VW has a 3 year warranty on their cars over here, porsche being 5 years and i think ferrari's being 3 years as well..

Yeah - most manufacturers give at least 3 years here too. EU law is 2years for manufacturers over a certain (low) volume, and then the importers add one. But with the waiting lists and demand Porsche has here there's currently no incentive for them to do that.

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

oh ok, thanks for the info rich C.

if we got cheaper taxes, there would also be a huge demand of porsches, ferrari's, lambo's etc. here. but the fact of the matter is that the taxes here make the cost of a daihatsu a fortune!

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

The new entry level Ferrari won't be mid-engined. It will be front-engined or the so called 'front-midship engined'..
A mid-engined 400 bhp would eat too much into F430's territory.

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Perhaps we ought to forward them some of Farina's sketches to send them along the right lines. Front mid-engined sounds about right - jut hope the nose doesn't look too extended, though hopefuly with a more compact engine it'll be easier to do..

    Re: Ferrari/Maserati news

Ferrari should get an Aston Martin AMV8 and put it in their design studio! That way hopefully they won't come up with just a smaller 612 Scag, hahaha!

Place your bets now. This Ferrari will show who the real posers are. For $100K to $120K (you KNOW there's going to be big markups), you can have a 500hp 997 Turbo or a 400hp California. "Eating the 911's lunch"? - I don't think so.

You need to think ahead! By the time this car rolls out, it will be compteing against the standard 911, not the turbo. At that time the turbo will seling for more than $150k. Getting the picture yet?
