Re: Why don't Porsche drivers make eye contact?!

well its nothing bad about making a wave to a fellow porsche owner, i mean we speak here, why not wave on the road? Seems too snibbish to me. I guess you are right, too much money for the people, much less passion left for the true enthousiasts.

And yes girlracer we have some beautifull mountain roads here.

wtsnet not open hand, fingers extended its a wave here in Greece, its only an offensive gesture when you extend your hand to other people faces and fingers are pre-extended.

no i m not in the tourist business!!!

And girlracer, have you posted any pics of your beauty along with you of course??????
    i m curious to see you !!

Re: Why don't Porsche drivers make eye contact?!

Thinking of heading up that way from Houston in a couple of weeks, any suggestions for the best fun roads.

Re: Why don't Porsche drivers make eye contact?!

    Hi Peetah,

I'm not sure about the best roads from Houston to here, but I can recommend a few once you're in the Austin area:

1431 is a fantastic road, especially west of Jonestown. If you've got the time and fancy some BBQ, I would suggest the very route I took last weekend, 1431 west to Llano (Cooper's BBQ) and then either 1431 back again or 71, which is still a great road. Bigger and wider but with rollercoaster style dips. Very fun road to try and beat your personal top speed. To get to 1431 from Austin you'd need to take either Mopac or I-35 north to 183 (west), and that will hook you up with 1431. I got to Llano from south Austin in just under 2 hours and back to Austin via 71 in an hour, but if you want a slightly longer jaunt, take 1174 or Nameless Road off 1431, both amazing roads around the lake and well worth the d-tour.

If you're looking for something a little closer to town for a quick blast, Redbud Trail (from Lake Austin Blvd. to Bee Caves Road and then turnaround and come back) is a good 20-30 mins of fun up in the hills, and I also really like taking Mt Bonnell Road from Exposition, up past Mt Bonnell (stop off and see the view from the highest point in Austin!) and then that hooks up with 2222, which is a blast in either direction. My usual evening fun ride is to take Mt Bonnell to 2222 then a left onto 2222 then do a U-turn under the highway at the lights, and come back the same route (2222 --> Mt Bonnell --> Exposition).

Goodness I almost forgot, very nice drive if you head west out of Austin on 290 then take a left onto 1826 (Hill Country Trail) towards Driftwood, you will have a great 13 mile drive along 1826 and also end up at the Saltlick, which is still my favourite BBQ joint ever.

Hope that helps! I've only lived here since Sept. but I made it my priority to find out about the good roads!

Btw, Dillinger, I'm pretending I didn't hear you!

Re: Why don't Porsche drivers make eye contact?!

Thanks for the info, looks like fun. Top speed beating, not sureabout that - me and the troopers know each other well but they are starting to miss me a bit now I have a V1 Let you know how it goes, Zaino this weekend so will probably be next weekend that I head up there. Oh and if I see another Boxster I will be sure to

Re: Why don't Porsche drivers make eye contact?!

Ahhh, you left out a VITAL piece of information...he was with someone! She might think you were coming onto him!

Seriously, I agree with the other posters here about people in cities....I live in central London and people here are stressed out rushing around all the time in traffic so waving good naturedly to other people doesn't come naturally...in fact, being honest, if someone with the same car as me waved to me I would think there was something wrong with them....or maybe that they are a stalker!

I guess it a shame that city people (me included) are so uptight about these things...we need to C-H-I-L-L O-U-T more!

Only time in London anything has happened in my Boxsters is when three boxtsers all pulled up to the traffic lines side by side.. roofs down, i was in the middle, we just looked at it other and grinned.

Heh, I had exactly the same experience here. I pulled up at the lights and 2 other Boxsters pulled up next to me. They were friends and I asked them where they were going. They were off to get a drink and asked if I wanted to join. I didn't have anything to do so I said yes! We had a rather pleasant few beers and a good yarn about Porsches. I've got their phone numbers and emails and will join them for a drive in the hills tomorrow.

We also talked about why people don't seem to wave at other Boxster drivers. I think that there are three types of Porsche drivers - Porsche enthusiasts (tend to get into 911's), car enthusiasts who are agnostic about Porsche (i'm one of these), and posers. I think that half the Porsche enthusiasts are too snobby to acknowledge the Boxster as a "real" Porsche, and the posers ... well, they want to pose. So we only get a greeting from the friendly Porsche enthusiasts and car enthusiasts.

I don't just wave at other Boxster drivers - I smile and praise nearly any nice machinery I see on the road. I saw an old 1970's Toyota Corolla in pristine condition with duck egg blue paint and standard steel wheels on the road driven by an old guy and I told him his car is beautiful. He said "thanks, i've kept it this way since new - but it's not as nice as yours!". We smiled and went our seperate ways.

You're making me hungry with the BBQ comments! Wish we had some good BBQ places here in OC!
