My father just bought a CGT (guards red). Does anyone know if the paint chips easily, and if it's recommended to put on the clear bra? I think the dealer quoted $3500, which is kind of high. Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks for the replies. I noticed that on some cars, the paint does not chip at all, and the clear bra would be irrelevant. And other cars, the paint will chip like crazy. And for the CGT, if I notice chips then it might be too late to put in the clear bra. So it will be nice to see if other CGT owners put it on.
Anyway, I'll post some pics and driving report later after the car has been broken in. For now, I haven't driven more than 100mph. All I can say now is that handling and brakes are excellent, and every input (steering, brakes, throttle) is very precise and well weighted. Seating position and ergonomics are perfect. The clutch is a non-issue at all. I haven't stalled the car even once. Perhaps Porsche adjusted the sensitive of the clutch for newer cars.
It will be too late . Have the clear bra installed right away. I drove my 997 from the dealer directly to have the clear bra installed before even bringing it home. Did the same thing for my CS. The sooner the better imo. Sometimes if you get chips and try to do the clear bra AFTERWARDS the chips look like little airbubbles under the film. (depending on how bad they are). $3500 is really steep. It cost $1500 for my CS including the entire bottom of the car along the rocker panels, mirrors, lights etc, etc. My 997 cost $1000. But it's well worth whatever it's going to cost especially on a CGT. Make sure you do right behind each wheel too. You only need like a 2 inch strip of film running along the back third of each wheel well. This prevents blasting the paint from road debry/sand etc. Keeps the paint in mint condition. Congrats to you and your dad. Please put in some pics when you can.
Have it installed privatly. Dealer eats up at least 1500 on top of it. I know a real good guy in Houston area if you're local I can pass his number to you.
baron, Ron's right about having it done privately. If you like in the NY Metro area the best place to have the film done is at Detailing Dynamics: http://www.detailingdynamics.com/
If you are far from LI and closer to Westchester or Rockland, also check out AI Design, they do great work as well and you can have your vehicle sent to them on a flatbed after delivery.
A CGT in Seattle recently had the 3M clear guard put on the entire car. I saw the finished product and it looked amazing. You couldn't really see any visible lines anywhere. If you guys were quoted for just the front bumper, $3500 is a rip off. My C4S was $600 for all the front, mirrors, door trim, and front of side skirts.
Can anyone recommend an installer for this product in the San Francisco Bay Area? I am just north of the city and am having a very difficult time locating a top-notch installer...
