    Is it worth putting high end audio into a Boxster?

    If you've seen my previous posts you'll notice that I'm looking into an Alpine F1 Status / Focal or Dynaudio speaker setup. With an OEM look, it would cost over 15,000. Do you think its worth it on this type of vehicle with limited space? I know the audiohiles out there will say it is worth it...

    I'm an audiophile, or as Jeffrey Behr says, audiofool, and I don't think it would be worth it. The background noise is so high, especially in a convertible, much of the value of a low-distortion, low-noise, wide frequency response system is masked by the noise. It's worth it to install a "good" system, maybe even a "very good" system, but I think it's a waste to go with a top-end, cutting edge setup.

    Yeah, after you mentioned the Alpine F1 Status in that other thread I went and looked it up. I can't see myself ever putting something that high-end into a roadster.

    I'm a big two-channel nut and I don't expect to have that level of audio refinement in a drop-top, or anything with any amount of road and engine noise, really.

    I would have to agree. I'd probably say a good install, and then a head unit that you can easily and safely switch between several different equalisation settings for different driving conditions - stationary, slow speed roof up, slow speed roof down, high speed cruise roof up, down, ... etc. You're only really going to get the benefit of high-end when you're stationary with the engine off.

    I mentioned in another post of mine that the dealer added a Bose sound System to my order - I figure I will just go with that and see how it is before modifying anything...(though I'd like to replace the head unit with an Alpine touch screen and head unit - not F1)...I'd rather put the money towards a Revo ECU unit, or some performance improvements from TechArt or Gemballa...thoughts?
