Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

Yes yes... I should have known better than swapping cars with my better half. He just called me from the airport, reporting a right rear flat.

We're counting on Porsche assistance now to pick him and the car up and tow them both back to West London Porsche. Does anyone know if you can actually pick and choose which OPC to bring the car to? Does anyone have experience with reaction times of the assistance in London? Does one get a courtesy car while the tire is being replaced (my guess is no, because it's not a warranty issue)? Cheers.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

Sorry to hear about your flat tyre. You didn't take out tyre insurance?

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

One of those "not yet" cases.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

Surely they can change a tyre whilst you wait. I take it that the tyre repair kit didn't work or the tyre was too badly damaged?

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

Hmm, maybe I'd better get that insurance sorted - I'm sure it'll happen to me sooner or later! Tough luck Ente. Hope it gets sorted OK.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your car

Thanks. I didn't want them to bother with the sealant stuff. Wait time was used to eat and chat and right now the dirty girl is on her way home, on the back of a truck.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

the last time i had a flat tire twas a real hasle... too bad Ente ... at least you get to buy new ones

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

Just to sum up what happened and how we got a tire replacement. My dirty girl is a 987S with 19" Carrera S wheels, which made me seriously flinch when I heard about the flat, especially since it was one of the bigger rear tires.

After discovering the flat Thursday evening on the Stansted parking lot, we called Porsche assistance and they picked the car up a bit over an hour later. It was towed free of charge to an OPC of our choice (West London Porsche). We got up early the next morning and went to the OPC to explain our mishap and ask for repair. They sat us on their sofa, handed us coffee and cookies for breakfast and ensured that we were given a top spot on the list of the tire person when he came in at app. 8:30am. Luckily they had a tire in stock and by 9:30am we were on our way home. The tire replacement cost 322 GBP, for a 265/35 ZR 19 Michelin Pilot. I don't doubt you could get the tire cheaper elsewhere, but we went for the low-hassle factor and were not disappointed. Aside from the slight waiting time until the tow truck arrived, Porsche assistance and the service team took good care of us.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

GBP322 for a tyre. hells bells that's expensive.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

You could say that was my most expensive cappucino to date ;-/

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

So did you sign up for the tyre insurance while you were there? Pounds25 a tyre sounds good value in comparison.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

I just got it confirmed by the Porsche Information Center UK that the tire insurance is indeed no longer available. It stopped being offered early this year and the OPCs are only obliging existing customers. There's a bit of confusion on Porsche side regarding this service. The statements regarding tire insurance transformed from "never existed", to "yes, that will be available in summer" on to "that should be available, let me speak to your OPC" and finally "sorry I was wrong, it is indeed no longer offered".

It was well worth the attempt though and thanks again for the broschure. At least I don't feel _quite_ as guilty over the tire.

Re: Flat, or: What happens when your better half has your ca

Found a site on the web that fits tyres for the Boxster 19's at much better prices.

    Merityre specialists
    MICHELIN 265/35ZR19 94Y Michelin PS2N0 Pounds228.96
    or
    MICHELIN 265/35ZR19 94Y Michelin PS2 N1 Pounds228.96

Almost Pounds100 per tyre saving. Got to be worth a look I say.

By the way, the cost for the Boxster S Michelin tyres is only about Pounds15 less, so the argument for getting 18's due to tyre replacement cost goes straight out the window.

If you could, it would be good to share the price you can find.

    Cheers,

    JZ
