Such a shame. The old M2 was looking good. I have spend many hours on track in the M2 Comp, and it was such a machine to drive.
Was the car reliable on and off track? Thinking of buying one but I am not sure, used prices are too high at the moment.
Yes and no. We are sometimes tracking these cars in +40 degrees celcius and they are doing fine, with one exception. The thing you need to consider is the brake cooling. It was horrible and discs went warping in no time, but brake performance was still there. I have seen track addicts who have installed a kit with a very simple brake cooling. In fact there are already made space and holes for this in the inner fenders. Search on google / youtube and I am sure you will find examples.
As I said, the M2 Competition is a great car. You have enough power for most tracks and the car is behaving soo well, that even as a passenger I trust nearly any driver at the limit. Something I don't if I am in the M3/M4.

I think BMW are experimenting because they want their cars to be different and outside the norm, in the current ultra competitive markets with a multiplicity of similar cars.
Some of their new shapes are stylistically successful and nice looking but some like the current 2 series and more so the M2 (judging from the limited number pictures so far) are not appealing. I am sure the M2 will be a very good (and affordable) driver's car and this might compensate for the odd looks
However, I remember that the 6 series and the 5 series created by Chris Bangle were not well received and they were described as abominations at the time. Nowadays, for me these Bangle cars look much better and with more personality than the more usual and normal subsequent 5,6/8 series.

Enmanuel:KMM:IMO, the 2 series was never aesthetically appealing. The proportions were always odd. Now add to that odd looking detailing...
The M240i looks a lot better in person than in pictures.
Yes and furthermore, I have seen the new M2 and it doesn't look this way.

The attraction of this model is the price at €74.000 including plenty of equipment. You get 460PS and entertaining handling. Porsche ask €130.000 for the Carrera S (450 PS) before some necessary options.
The styling is unattractive at first sight but it has something "primitive" about it, which fans will warm to. I predict the new M2 will become a cult model among the BMW faithful.

Completely agree. There is something "E30 old school" attraction in it, which isn't bad...
But these M Performance parts are complete rubbish...
