I could have actually done it. Sorry about the sudden departure. But seriously I have made that drive in a moving van in two days besides I needed to visit my daughter for n Portland. As a team it would be easy.

There had always been only 2 seats guys haha
Reflecting on my journey, after I exited my province and Canada, I had only seen 4 Teslas, one on the highway in Iowa, I80 between Des Moines and Iowa City, and 3 more as Uber in Indianapolis in front of the hotel.
I also did not see Porsches, only one, a Cayenne turbo, current gen, on the Montana I90 when it did a fly by on the 918. I did not see another before that, or after. The next Porsche I see was in front of the JW at indy. I literally saw 1 Porsche for the whole 2500 mile trip.
Everything else is domestic, be it Ford, Chrysler or GM. And Hyundais. I never knew there are so many Hyundais on the road in America. Heartland of America. It really is mostly pickups. Even Toyota pickups are plenty. Just nothing German, or Tesla.
This trip really had me convinced that the real issue for EV adoption is just as I had been suspecting for the longest time, infrastructure. I am not even travelling on hidden highways and such. I am on the major routes, yet they have no charging infrastructure. It really makes no difference about 200 or 300 miles electric range, when chargers are farther apart than that. No markings on the highway, no pointers or marking in the towns in between. After a pointer I saw at Spokane Washington, the next pointer to a charger I see on the highway is in Rapid City South Dakota, I literally didn't see a single sign that says charger in the state of Montana. I am sure they have some but they weren't indicated.
For the whole trip, I averaged about 24 and something mpg. Considering the performance, no other car comes close. Find me another car that puts out 900hp and can do the same. And I never had it charged after I left my house on full charge. So basically 10 out of 2500 miles is home charging for the car, the rest of it is from the ECU.
More interesting thoughts. Me and my buddy were gauging range by the hour, not mileage. We'd be looking at the projected range and divided that by the speed we going, We are going by fuel burnt and not distance travelled. 5 ish hr for a full tank.
Next long road trip will be from Vancouver down to Monterey and back or the Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca 2023.
Still a bit miffed and pissed about Porsche prefer to acknowledge some lesser individuals like Manny and Shmee. Doesn't matter, I love them and I will continue to be their unofficial ambassador just because I love the greatest car of all time, the 918, so much. There was no better car before, and nothing better will ever come after.

So my car doesn't quite wanted to come home yet, he was on a holiday and extended it's holiday by a bit.
Long story short, I had to get back early so I shipped the car to Seattle so I can pick it up, but as timing would have it I was unable to. I asked my best mate Atomic80, aka Jason to receive the car for me first. First thing he did was to give it a bath, the car cleaned up quite nicely I might add.
He also took it to a few car meets in the area, and invaded a regional Ferrari Club of America meet as well.
I believe Atomic80 will also be taking the car to a Mount St Helen drive come Friday.

It really has been a pleasure driving the 918! The only other time I had the chance to get behind the wheel was that first time I did a shoot with Whoopsy's 918 almost 8 years ago and that was only inside the dealership to move the car around purely in e-mode! I can say that this car is a beast!

Click on the button bellow the text box that says "Choose files", then navigate to the image file in your phone or computer and click on the file, then wait until it uploads and it will display in the text box with your text. You can select several images at once but the software is sometimes a bit temperamental and may give an error so U suggest you add each image one by one following the same process

IMO the two most timeless mid-engined designs of the modern era are the Carrera GT and the 918.
The CGT is my favourite. Pity that its spec is rather antiquated for a 2000s car i.e. manual only with an awkward clutch and without stability control.

I am completely jealous of anyone that owns either of them, but more trying to take the pulse of which one it is for the ages…..
CGT's claim to fame is it's V10 engine. Arguably the best sounding Porsche engine ever. It was first developed for racing, but that didn't happened, twice, and ended up in a road car. For some it's the 'purist' Porsche with the manual. Also infamous for Paul walker dying in one. That's the legacy of the CGT. It was a 'dead end' branch in Porsche's history, nothing else came out from the branch, outside of the double panel roof design that the 918 also used and also the carbon fibre engine suspension cradle design that the 918 also used.
918's claim to fame is it's the first production car to go under 7 mins at the Ring and the fastest halo car when it was launched. It was a technology tour de force at the time, showcasing Porsche's engineering prowess. The world's first performance hybrid, also the fastest. At the time, the public's view of a hybrid is a econobox like the Prius, the 918 changed that notion forever. No car from anyone is more complex before, and none since, pinnacle of automotive engineering. It even forced McLaren to haphazardly slap a hybrid system to their halo car, the P1. Technology, designs and parts of the car still live on to this day. On paper the race bred engine, derived from the RS Spyder engine, is the 2nd highest specific output NA engine, but in reality it actually tops that. Spec output is 608PS, but none of the 918 engines came out of the factory making that little in validation dyno testing, exact output for each is a secret locked away in Porsche's database. I can't even find out mine's exact output. The engine in turbo charged form will be racing again next year. 918 stuff propelled Porsche forward for the last 10 years, and it's still driving forward. That's the legacy of the 918.
It really isn't fair to compare the CGT with the 918, they served 2 different purposes for Porsche. CGT was the salvage project by Porsche to recoup money sunk into their failed racing programs, with the s, at a time when Porsche was tight with money as they went all in with the Cayenne. The CGT should be lumped with the GT1 road car instead. Both are 'race derived' but doesn't contribute much, if at all, to future Porsche projects.
The proper halo car to compare the 918 with is the 959. Both were the tech showcase cars for Porsche with parts and technology and developments trickle down to their other road cars.

That's a great way of looking at things, Nick. When I drove next to the CGT that day all I could hear was that wonderful shrieking coming from its V10. It sounded so good even to my almost deaf ears! He drove next to me for quite a while so it truly was music to my ears. Now you have me wondering how the GT1 sounds compared to the CGT.
Last Friday, a group of my friends went on our annual drive to the Johnston Ridge at Mt St Helens on roads which could almost be considered heaven for the ultimate driver. Fast, sweeping and open roads with very little traffic especially during the weekday. This year, we had two of the greatest hybrids of the modern ages, the 918 of course and the new SF90 from Ferrari. It was interesting to compare the two. We were neck and neck most of the way up there leaving it up to the driver to define its true potential. Not wanting to crash Nick's car, I didn't push it to its limits but even then I found its limits to be extraordinarily high. Here are some photos from that drive:

I just take away the passionate and subjective feelings and look at them factually and as objectively as possible.
When I mention CGT, first thing comes to mind for EVERYONE is the V10. Most would be hard pressed to name a secondary thing. Maybe the ceramic clutch and the 6 speed, that's about it. Anything on it that got passed onto the next Porsche cars? Nope, apart from the bucket seats that became the standard bucket for Porsche for a bit until they came out with the folding bucket and then the 918 seat. It also didn't hold any records.
918. There are many things people will remember it for. Ring King. Fastest hybrid. Amazing V8. That brand new 992 GT3RS still has the 918 seat. It's hybrid system powered a whole generation of Porsche hybrids. The then new steering wheel design was on a whole generation of Porsche cars. The touch buttons on the centre console also. Gear shifter is now on the Taycan.
These 2 are really just on different missions for Porsche.
As for the GT1 sound, you will be disappointed after hearing the V10. Maybe there will be one running at Rennsport next year that you can hear on track, but it holds nothing compared to a 991 RSR race car.
