That's correct, on the 997, the Navigation DVD is actually in the front boot.
On the PCM, it is only a Music/CD/ MP3 player.

    Inflation... is a bitch!!!

Common practive I'm afraid, all manufacturers do it.
Problem is, Porsche does not apply the principle of the three months price garranty.

    Gents,

Here we go with the new options for MY 2006:

    - PCM 2 now reads MP3 files from CD in the internal CD reader.
    - Suppresion of the storage pocket behind the sport seats.
    - New two tones interior options (Black/ Stone, Black/ Sand and black/ Terracotta), already available for the Boxster.
    - And FINALLY, the one we've all been waiting for! The Carrera S POWERKIT!

First amazing news: It comes with Sport Exhaust and Sport Exhaust chrome tips!!!
Power goes to 381 hp with same engine displacement, ie. 3.8L

0 to 100 kmh in 4.6 secs and Top Speed of 300 kmh!!!!!

Main mods are new Cyl. heads, Exhaust Tubulars, New aluminium admission and additional radiator.

    Great!!!

If the Carrera S will pump out 381hp with the power kit, what are they going to do with the GT3's HP?

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

    997 GT3 going to 400/410hp I heard...

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

SEEMS VERY TIGHT DIFFERENCE TO ME only 20 hp, they just drop the image of the GT3

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

Porsche should definitely use the same engine for the 997 GT3 as they use for the 997 GT3 Cup...

+ water cooled flat six-cylinder boxer engine
    + 3,598cc (stroke 76.4mm, bore 100mm diameter)
    + max. power: 294kW (400BHP) at 7,300rpm
    + max. torque: 400Nm at 6,500rpm
    + max. rpm: 8,200rpm
    + four valves per cylinder
    + water-cooled
    + dry-sump lubrication
+ two-stage resonance intake manifold, central inlet air duct
+ electronic engine management system MS 3.1
    + sequential multi-point fuel injection
+ fuel: 98 octane ROZ, unleaded
+ race exhaust system with lambda-probe-equipped catalytic converter
    + twin-branch centre exhaust pipes

The main attraction of the GT3 is that awesome engine!

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

    Now how about a 997 C4S with the GT3 engine... the 997 GT4!

The main attraction of the 997 GT3 Cup is its suspension - ask any of the current Cupdrivers about it!

Perhaps, but only if you think everything is about hp. The GT3 will dramatically outperform the 997S even with the X51 because it will be lighter and have a track oriented suspension. I suspect the 2 cars will be considerably different (and one will have a reliable RMS )

What about torque? Does it go up or stay the same

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

must have little difference due to thje fact that engine displacement stays the same

Don't think so, torque should be the same bc the engine displacement is still the same but be available at higher revs.
In other words, just like the 996, the 80 to 120 kmh in the same gear (4th of 5th) should take longer with X51 but ultimately, the car will be faster in the higher RPM, highly recommanded if you intend to use the car on track.

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

Thanx, so the X51 won't be as good/comfortable to drive at low rpm, like in citytraffic, because the X51 has a more high-strung nature?

    Temm,
I think you'd be hard pressed a big difference at low revs but yes, that it correct.
Once again the best person to ask would be RC as he used to own a 996 C4 mk1 with 320 hp instead of 300 hp.
In essence, all powerkit for water cooled na 911 have the same characteristics, about 20 to 25 hp more but with same engine displacement, hence max torque available at higher revs.
More for the sporty driver if you ask.
It's got good points and bad ones.
Usually the gains are very small, which is why I'm very interested in this one, Porsche claims a 0.2 secs gain for 0 to 100 kmh, 4.6 secs!

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

    Thanx again Fanch
I'm loooking forward to hearing your impressions of the X51.
And I wonder if the sound of the X51 with PSE will be better/louder than a normal engine w/PSE..
When you do get your car, be sure to bring it and a videocamera to a tunnel

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

The car is not even confirmed, on my order is states, delivery est. end of September.
    It's bc of X51.
    It's not even official.
It would seem I opened a can of worms!
But then again, the dealer never told me it was confidential, so I personally haven't done anything wrong.
Truth is, if dealer has the info, official statement should now be imminent, well I hope!
But rest addured, when I do finally get it in 2009, I will posts videos.
In the meantime, I can sample a sound file of my 996 with PSE and post it if you want, not what you asked for but the next best thing.

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

YES THAT YOU BE VERY KIND fANCH,JUST SPECIFY WHERE WAS THE MICROPHONE PLACE DURING RECORDING...

AND FANCH, please be so kind to tell us if you have also placed the sport exhaust tail pipes that is said to add a more sporty sound to the sport exhaust..

Also, have you fitted the powerkit also?

And which mk is your 996???

    Thanx for your contribution!

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

Ok back to Paris this weekend so will do it.
No, I have the normal exhaust tips bc the other ones look horrible IMO, and do not add any noise benefit at all.
If you look closely especially from the side, you can see that all they are is exhaust tips, and even though they look double, it's like the 997S standard exaust, it's only one outlet.
    My car is 2002.
I'll fire it up in my parking (nice resonnance) and have a friend hold the recording device just behind the car and then play with the button on/off.
And last answer, no powerkit, bought my car one month before it was announced! But I wouldnt have gotten it anyway.

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

Fanch i ve heard from some 996 owners that the sports tail pipes even if they add no techical changes they alter a bit the sound tone of the exhaust because of the way they let the gas flow out at the last point

Never heard it before, I'm not saying it's not true, but look at it yourself, it really is the same outlet, I hardly see how the sound can be any different.

Re: OFFICIAL!!! New options for 06 models incl. X51

i did not believe it, moreover it sounded ridiculus to me. I ve keard the difference and i was stuck...seems the sport outles push the air under the rear fender thus making a louder noise.,..

I think Ron(Houston) had confirmed this in the past, and if i remember correctly Carlos as well..

    .X51

I heard just a few days ago from good authority that there is no official release date for X51 at this time. It is in development and has to meet emission and noise requirements in testing prior to release.

Thanks MMD for that horrible news!

when you write good authority, do you mean that your contact is internal to Porsche?
The only thing I know for sure is that is it NOT in development as 381hp was the initial power developed for the 997S, then tuned down to 355 hp (Marketing, marketing!!! )
(just the way they did with the two 996 engines 320hp to 300hp and 345hp to 320hp actually).
As for noise requirements, doesn't make sense.
Could be true about emissions though.
When my dealer informed me about X51, it said on the document estimate availibility date: September 05.
    Hope, hope, hope...
    Thanks for the update anyway.

    Re: .X51

Just visited my dealer again today and he told me there was no confirmation whatsoever BUT they also didn't say it would NOT be there. He also told me that if it will be there chances are pretty big it will be available for MY06 (Sept. 2005). Again fingers crossed!

I bet if you had access to Porsche's 5-year plan, you would find out that Porsche has a horsepower plan for all its models with incremental increases every few years.

    Me too for France!
    First delivery Setp 05.
I've asked the dealer some info, but he has nothing, just that Porsche AG got the homologation.
He's not even sure about the power!
He read me 381 hp back in April, yesterday, je told me 382hp Would that be just to have a psychological edge over the power of the 996 GT3 (no point really) and RC told me it wouldn't surprise him if the engine get 385hp.
    Small differences but still.
I am very eager to find out the 0 to 200 kmh time, really eager.

My dealer also told me that it will have 385hp. But I wouldn't count on that. That would be a higher hp increase than ever before for a non-turbo model. On the other hand, last 285hp 993 got 15hp, first 300hp 996 got 20hp, later 320hp 996 got 25hp. So, 30hp would match the series perfectly What doesn't match is the price. Former powerkits were almost 500 Euros per 1hp. So, 30hp should cost almost 15k, but current price indication is below 13k including PSE! Therefore, I would expect an increase of 26hp.
