Contract signed, Gulf Blue, Clubsport package, steel brakes, no WP, other small bits, will use it again for track days. I'm No 1 at the dealer so should get the car.

Congratulations Smiley I am impatient for you.  The only feature from the WP I would miss is the real mechanical race paddles.

Yeah, those sound interesting.  I’ve never had a car with PDK,  but my impression is that many track driver put the gearbox in drive and don’t touch the paddles (let the car shift itself).  Any truth to this?

Some do, but after a few laps all would go to manual mode. Or just use the paddle to go another gear up or down.

Porsche's shift logic is great, but not perfect. Each track will have it's own oddity and the logic cannot account for.

There will be places where holding a gear is better than another shift up, and also at times it's better to go down one more than the car selected.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

I think its funny they are now selling "clicking paddles" as a $$$ upgrade. Personally I fell they should have always been this way and IIRC my 991.1 GT3 paddles had a definitive click and my 992.1 GT3 have almost none.

I run a 991.2 GT3 CUP on my iRacing SIM. Even my cheap steering wheel has magnetic paddles. To be honest even my cheap steering wheel is better built than my Porsche steering wheel! My Cube Controls wheel is better made/quality/functionality than the actual 991 Cup wheel!!

Heck. If Im perfectly honest with you guys, after developing the rig to the point it is now driving a lap of the Nurburgring in the Cup car is MORE visceral than driving my actually 992 GT3 at my local track quickly!

I know its thread creep so Ill leave it there by myself and a few other real GT3/RS race guys are now using our rigs way more than our cars. I drove a few laps in a friends 997.2 Cup car at our local track recently and its way more similar in feel (whine of straight cut gears, bang in back on a shift of the sequential, steering feedback, weight transfer) than my 992 GT3 will ever been.

Quite honestly this is what made the decision to ditch the GT3 as a road car. Its just not visceral enough any more. Porsche have done the opposite of Ferrari and ENGINEERED OUT the emotion. I want to feel the click in the paddles and feel the punch in my back of a gearshift. Even the noisey transmission is gone....my 2009 Elise SC with exhaust and shifter upgrades is WAY WAY more visceral for a Sunday drive on ANY road.

At least with the 992 GT3RS you get more raw. But really you could by a nice 997 Cup car for 70-80K Euro a trailer, a new Range Rover to tow it AND a Ferrari 360 Challenege Stradale (probably a good investment) for the same money as an optioned 992 GT3...may even have enough left over for a nice SIM rig?

    I digress. Sorry guys...

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

    Thanks Grant.

This is my third rebuild. Just waiting for the pedal rumble kit to arrive next month and Im pretty much done.

I started the project almost 2 years ago knowing little about how much Id have to learn. You need to be PC Literate, mechanically capable and electronically handy to build a good rig. This one has 11 main power devices, 22 active USB devices, 8 x 200 CFM fans (excludes the PC CPU/GPU/cabinet, 3 x amplifiers etc. Immersion is 3 x transducers, pedal rumble kit, wind sim, head tracking, DD wheel base, game active cockpit and room lighting etc.

Great for keeping your eye in over winter although the GR Yaris is now full filling some of that role (it can pound out laps in the wet and 5c temps like a champ LOL).

    That's a wonderful setup!! Lovely!!

I see yo uneven replicate the centre stack of buttons, just about perfect in placement too, from the pic it looks to be slightly higher and farther out than the real car.

Seat movement also? And the clutch pedal simulate the real Cup car clutch also?

I used to went on the Porsche Experience simulator fitted inside a Cup car. I can't do more than a hand full of laps before I get car sick. Even when that simulated just about everything, including a moving seat that simulate car movements, not quite all the things however and my brain simply was missing a sensory input or 2 and can't compute.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

This is an impressive setting !  But I can't believe it can replace a real lap in a real car.

RS models have always been rougher then the GT. Maybe that's what you need ?  But I can also imagine that driving on a smaller track with the current perfect cars becomes somehow boring.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

The seat slides and below it are 2 fans pushing and 2 fans pulling air across the large transducers which emulate wheel slip, brake locking, rpm and engine vibration. I have the cooling system thermostatically controlled based on the temps of the amps that control them. There are 3 x transducers on the rig and each is powered by a dedicated 90w mono channel amp running 2 ohms. The floor is "live" (i.e. floating timber) so the vibrations these create can be felt through the whole rig (and room). If you use external sound rather than headset then the sound is piped through a 500W soundbar with seperate subwoofer in the corner of the room. Turned up its at least as loud as a real Cup car!

The rig is not a motion rig. This is actually the key to fooling the brain. The top e-sport drivers drive non motion rigs. The issue is that the motion rigs cant accurately translate the telemetry channels consistently into realistic movement so when they glitch the is jerked out of immersion and the spell is broken. The best rigs use the screens, sound and small accurately interperated cues to fool the brain into believing everything is real.

Wit the room dark and the 1800R Odyssey monitor 600mm from the face, headphones on etc within moments you start to feel the Green Hell closing in on your especially in places like Kessel where the lighting above the rig and behind the monitors casts the changing shadows of the light through the trees on your arms in the cockpit and the walls behind the monitor...

Of course driving the real things is never going to be fully replicated by a SIM but if you have a well specced and set up rig youd be amazed at how well the brain can be fooled into believing you are getting 90% of the experience! 20% of folk who have a go on mine get motion sickness and the rig itself is not a motion platform!

There is a reason top e sport drivers who have never driven or raced a car in real life series are now becoming accomplished drivers in their rookie years. The transition can be real as evidenced in the last two years by successful GT3 Supercup and Formula 2 entrants...

I dint want to derail this thread. Maybe we put together a sim racing thread later as Im fairly certain those of you who are relatively interested and serious about motorsport would really enjoy running a rig and racing against others in a proper series. Who knows if you become really good you can make your hobby pay - the top series pay up to 100K prize money and the most successful e-sporters these last few years earn more than 90% of the successful real race drivers!

So was asked for my configuration for the 3RS.  Not guaranteed at this point but we will see.  Hoping for PTS.  Always wanted a Mexico Blue car but thinking a darker color would be better so maybe Albert Blue.  My girlfriend wants me to get Acid Green indecision.  If not PTS going boring ol' GT silver.  Not doing Weissach as just visually it looks terrible to my eyes.  And all I'd really want are the wheels anyway.

Haven't really had a great experience with the 992 GT3 (rotors replaced, cracked windows, etc...) so while a GT4RS is probably a better fit for my road/track usage looks like a 3RS is more likely.  Otherwise may be looking at other brands...

This blue looks so so good! And I get the feeling it’ll be pretty unique.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

I had checked out all the PTS available for the 3RS and chosen my favorites.. Albert blue was part of my selection. It will look good. Makes the car a bit more discrete.

WP does look terrible as presented in the config. I wonder if that is really the final rending as AP did mention it would come with line on the front hood, which do not show on the configurator.

Not possible to get the 50th Carrera RS edition ?

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

Was told no chance on 50th anniversary livery 😕

Not sure why but some configurators show the correct Weissach look.  Still not really a fan.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

Changed spec to better match some classic Albert Blue 911s, went with black calipers instead of yellow.  Doesn't look as dark in the actual pics so may have to go with something even darker on the config:

You need to consider modern colors. The blue you selected de emphasizes the styling of the car. enlightened

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

The historical color palette, especially Albert Blue, is well suited.  Enjoy your new car, whenever it arrives.

    Re: 992 GT3 RS

"You need to consider modern colors. The blue you selected de emphasizes the styling of the car. enlightened"

That might be part of the point nberry. I think it's much better looking in dark colours which mask some of the overtness. It's always going to be "In your face" but with more muted colours its more lime green GTS levels of brashness.

I like it in Alex Grey myself.

I think Alex Grey looks stunning both in the configurator and in the real picture.
I saw a picture of a Pastel Orange 992 GT3 RS on instagram the other day, and with the black/CF accents, that also looked really good, albeit a bit busy.

I agree. The car looks very odd to me. Sort of a Rube Goldberg design. Maybe dark colors would be better to hide the the design problem. It’s what you get when performance is the only concern and design an after thought.Smiley
