Epic - love my 997RS to bits as well - so much smaller and more "911" even if the new products are faster

I can imagine, that's the one I would love to put next to this one at some point. 997.2 3.8. And a GT4 RS to finish it off. Smiley

    Same here. Smiley

Re: Back to basics - 996 GT3 RS

I have to ask but how do you buy an older track without also buying future repairs? Do you have a complete inspection of the car and if so is it done by a Porsche dealer or an independent mechanic?

Re: Back to basics - 996 GT3 RS

I had a 111pt check carried out by Porsche, and then the car was taken care of by Manthey to set it up/replace parts where necessary. That said they are pretty bulletproof, the main thing is to check the engine didn’t do too many overrevs.

Re: Back to basics - 996 GT3 RS

Great outing yesterday together with my friend's 996 RS, and as luck would have it we encountered another 996 RS out on track, 3 out of 682 cars at the same spot at the same time.

And what a great reminder once again how brilliant these cars are on track, so communicative, so light, bulletproof, adjustable, all you could wish for.

It's been a while since I've driven the stock one, but quite a bit yes. A lot more comfortable, a bit more 'easy going', the engine doesn't feel to dissimilar (stock definitely has over 400hp as well) torque is the most obvious difference low down, despite me having a titanium exhaust the sound level is almost the same, different timbre.

It has been obvious for a long time that Porker is the archetypal GT Porsche kind of person/driver.

Fantastic to see these 996 on the Ring. How do you compare the driving to the 997 and 991 ?

How fast can you be ?

It feels quite different, it moves around on the round quite a bit more than a 997. Understeer, oversteer, hopping over undulations, it's certainly more lively and requires to be 'driven' more. At the same time, unless my memory is clouding my impressions, the shell feels stiffer, everything is transmitted nicely and purely through the chassis. My setup on this one is the most extreme of all three I had, so of course that taints the picture somewhat.

The 991 doesn't really compare, it feels like a different concept, much bigger, much more grip, much quicker, much less 911. Certainly less fun/engaging to drive. To get the 996 moving around when driven hard, it feels a bit like it's dancing. Fantastic sensation.

On Spa I was quicker with my 996 than I was with the 997 at the time. The ring I don't know, I think I'd take less liberties there now...

Agree the greater performance of 991 etc less 911 for sure.  handling the 911s weaknesses well were satisfying skills to develop; another favourite - 930 turboSmiley

Re: Back to basics - 996 GT3 RS

Took the old girl to the Nordschleife for the weekend after 6 months of standstill. Just had to adjust tire pressures and she' ready to go. The perks of having a Porsche...

Lovely weekend, took my son with me for some (slow) laps, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Until he turned all white. :)

I in turn thoroughly enjoyed the car once more. Hard to believe it'll celebrate its 20th birthday next year...
