Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Oh, took delivery of the Huracan already. Just had brief drive home in rush hour traffic.

What a engine!, What a car! With the top down the exhaust note is very attractive.

Steering is nice, I got the electric assisted variable ratio one and it's really nice, Good enough feed back that I can feel what I ran over, still not sure why people gave a big fuss about electric steering. The mechanism are exactly the same as a pure hydraulic one, except there is no pump and the boost is only active when the steering wheel is turned.

Vision forward is nice, vision backyard is 918 level, which is like non-existent, but at least I don't have a wing blocking.

The gearbox is really quite good, didn't protest when stuck in traffic, but when open up it knows what it is doing.

Did I mention the exhaust note? Wow.

Absolutely zero luggage room, the 918 can haul more believe it or not. The front trunk can only swallow a airline carry-on, the 918 can take 2. glove box is a draw and the 918 wins in the arm rest console storage. behind the centre console the Huracan can store about 2 parking tickets, the 918 wins again. (Can't believe a 918 can win in the luggage/storage category)

    Seats are nice.

Car is not the fastest, nor even close to hardcore, but that's not the kind of car I am looking for anyway. But it has that Italian 'poser' gene, one doesn't have to go fast to feel excited in the car. The sexy exhaust note helps a lot.

Boy the startup sound is really something.

Wether doesn't look too nice next few days, gonna see if I can find a good day and do a run up to Whistler and back to compare with the other cars.

Sounds like fun kiss - will you install a aftermarket exhaust ? When I drove the spyder it was very nice soundwise but not like the SL. Well you have other choices for Sound - but I felt I would probably add aftermarket with a Switch....

Seems like Lamborghini did incredible job with Huracan. While reading some comments on forums, I have impression that drivers are much more satisfied with Huracan than with 488 GTB. People mention Ferrari is fast, but nothing more beyond that.

I do not drive the sexy looking Huracan Spider but something close to it, sharing the engine, gearbox, chassis and steering (the Huracan got the excellent second gen Dynamic Steering from the latest R8 just starting with MY 2016) and I have to say that although many cars, incl. the 488, are much faster at higher speeds than my R8, the emotional part of my car (and thus the Huracan as well) is almost unbeatable! This is also probably one of the rare sportscars you can enjoy in slow traffic as well.

I can't help it but I wouldn't be surprised if we are going to see an Aventador in Nick's garage as well at some (distant?) point in the future. Lamborghinis are addictive. indecision

The question that comes up is how long can Lamborghini keep this (NA-) magic, at least for their small model. Smiley

same I am tinking for the RS models - even if you add 20-40 HP - the torque the competition has with it's Turbo charging will make it very hard to compete in the same categories

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Cayman GT4 is proof that you dont need to be fastest. 488 GTB is fast as hell, yet people recognize only that part as something worth mentioning. Everything else is...okay.

once you've experienced the power after 4500rpm of a GT3 - the GT4 is lacking big time in the power department. Chassis is near perfection but engine clearly is not a GT product....way different.

Although I love my Targa, the GT3 spoiled me. There is a huge difference in sound, torque and overall excitement in driving the GT3. I miss the rawness and performance of a GT car. It is like going from a bucking bronco to a pony. There is good reason why the Porsche GT cars are in demand and hold their value.

Nick, you own a 918. Seriously, not many cars can be compared to it. The  Huracan though fast, is known for its over the top styling and exhaust. Yesterday saw a orange one coming toward me and it did give off a sinister look with a bark to match it.Smiley

My car don't even have the sports exhaust option and I already think it sounded very good, so no, at this moment I don't see myself adding an aftermarket exhaust. But if I do, I might do the factory race exhaust.

The Lambo/Audi V10 has a very muscular sound which I like, very difference than the high pitch F1 squeal of the CGT.

the new generation of sports cars are all at a very high performance point.

way beyond what can be exploited on normal roads.

there was a time when I was fascinated with cars that produced the most power and the best results on paper...not anymore.

now I enjoy cars that give me that feeling under normal driving conditions. my rapide does that and so does the g63. I do not have to floor it to get the feeling of driving a fun car. its the aural and visceral pleasure.

When you drive a reasonably priced race car on a track and it blows the doors off of anything street legal this feeling is only strengthened.

I believe most of us are beginning to feel that way. The GT3 provided that pleasure at lower speeds. To some extent so does the Targa. However, the Targa exhaust and transmission pale compare to the GT3. But as a boulevard cruiser, it can't be beat.Smiley

GT4 is not there to compete with GT3. Over MSRP prices for used ones tells you pretty much that Porsche made perfectly balanced car for what it is. It was produced as "affordable track-oriented" car for average drivers. If you want to make serious step-up, GT3 RS is waiting for you Smiley

And...just to be clear, engine in 991 GT3 is tuned 9A1 engine. It would be true GT product if we saw it on race track first, and than later adopted for street legal cars (GT3).

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Man the Huracan is loud on startups and I don't even have the sports exhaust.

Wife took it out last night and I can honestly say only car I had with a louder startup was the McLaren 12C. The 2 Ferraris seems quiet by comparison. Same with the 918.
