In France business owners have been fighting to have stores open on Sunday's for two decades and have failed. They were opening and paying the fines for a while because they were making way more money by being open one extra weekend day but the government even closed that possibility. Not even right wing government have been able to make that one stick. And employees were paid overtime to come to work and it was done on a voluntary basis... Was kind of hoping the EU would push France in another direction with Britain how the example. That's gone now.

One fun little known fact is that the USA is more unionized than France...
