Tourist drives on the Nordschleife are for example indeed dangerous but organized events, especially from reputable organizers, are quite safe. If there is a hot head, they usually take him out pretty fast, either by talking to that particular person or by sending that person home. I've been to so many track events and the "bruises" are usually minor, like tire damages, rim damages or stone chip damages. There was once an engine damage due to serious over-revving (downshift) and somehow this was enough to "blow" the engine) but otherwise...
