With the SIM system - there is a wireless phone built into the car with antenna, etc. All you supply is the SIM. For us in the USA, its useless because the service providers other than T-Mobile, don't use GSM, they use non-SIM card based technologies

AT&T Wireless, the biggest in the nation, uses GSM and a SIM card. I know this because it's my carrier. Also, the phone usually gives the choice of saving addresses to the SIM card or the phone itself. If saved to the SIM card, the addresses would sync between the phone and the PCM.

This is true, if the phone syncs addresses to the SIM card, then its on the SIM. You would, however, have to remove the SIM card from the phone and put it in the phone-prepped PCM, or have the bluetooth option that uses the phones SIM card.

Good to know that AT&T is SIM based.
