It's that time where the current Cayenne generation is on the tail-end of its lifecycle. In keeping with the usual seven-year lifecycle for Porsches, the 2011 958 Cayenne unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010 should see a replacement early in 2017 as a 2018 model. This means that the development cycle should have kicked off by now and mules should be seen running around.

I did a bit of snooping and found these - an old Q7 body riding on an MLB evo platform as seen on the new Q7/Bentayga and already confirmed for the next Cayenne and VW Touareg. Based on the wheels and four-pipe exhaust, pundits are stating that this is an early development mule for the next Cayenne. Taking this and the current time into account, this seems consistent... And means we should see the new camouflaged body in the next few months. Interesting to note: sources are [so far] claiming that the Cayenne will only offer petrol and plug-in hybrids this cycle with no diesels.

Exciting times for Porsche's bestseller; let the development/anticipation begin!
